Cool, thanks for the pics. I think I have the proper gas pedal that would allow me to use that instead but wanted to see yours also. I also like the shift mounted one and thought it might look hinkey but yours looks pretty clean. But if I go to the gas pedal a dash version would probably be the straightest shot. Thanks again for the pictures, that makes a lot of sense. Not so worried about the deadman feature as pushing the clutch pretty much takes a running engine out of the equation.

I think the oem-type connection to the pedal has to be somewhat cumbersome - it's not a natural movement - like having the hand throttle on the gear shift...

If you have the appropriate gas pedal, you only need to go from the gear shift to the pedal - you may need to fab a bracket to allow the cable to maintain the proper approach. But, I think that would be easily done.

Just be sure you test it out and make sure your foot overrides the hand throttle and that the hand throttle doesn't interfere...

I don't know how @Fast Eddy hooked his up (pedal or bellcrank), but I know @sggoat hooked his to the pedal - maybe he will chime in to answer any pedal-related questions.

And you hold this lever constantly when in use? How do you steer and drink your beer?

Knees. I have to use one foot on the pedal and only one knee if I need to send a txt at the same time. :flipoff2:

My pedal is of unknown origin, but very probably Toyota. At the top it has a "paddle" with a hole and a slot. It almost looks like it was made for this application. The lead cable end slots right into it and the cable housing is attached to the bracket that should contain the full-throttle switch for the emissions computer. I believe I will be able to get them to co-exist when I get a round tuit.

I have a round tuit - Dad had it for years and passed it down to me ....not giving it up , either .

I'd imagine Eddy has the idle-up hand throttle capable gas pedal assembly - the one I've been looking to find for a long time , they just don't come up . Kind of like those stupid starting handle storage clips and the starting handle itself , of which I have one in possession now on the bench for prototype work . My thought was to use the later 80 series throttle cable/handle lock and make the rest of the parts off the drawings out there , albeit they are tough to see detail . The 80 cable is a bit long I think , but that can be cut down . The throttle control is mounted to lower dash in stock form and is used to increase idle speed , not a whole lot of range to my understanding but would work for my intended purpose (onboard welder) . To me , the best place to add a hand throttle is at the pedal , a lot less junk on the carb itself and less risk of pulling on the throttle shaft at a bad angle which can cause wear issues .

So , who has one of those odd pedal arm assemblies I can borrow for a few days ? Looks like just an additional rod welded to the pedal with a provision to clip the cable end to it ....easy enough to copy and offer up for folks...?

Thanks for the photos pngunme, those are helpful.

I've always considered round tuits commonplace... They seem to be everywhere!

Can't you fab a pedal from a picture, Sarge? I know @sggoat has a good picture in a MUD thread.

Dimensionally , it's a bit tough from pictures - need more specific info and I may make a trip up to see SSCR's rig firsthand - with calipers in my pocket , lol . Just need to see one in person and take some measurements is all . May be another part I can produce for reproduction .

I had a kit from sears I installed on a 78 ford pickup with manual transmission. The kit included 2 magnets that were stuck on the driveshaft and I put strapping tape around them and the drive shaft. There was a ball type chain that connected the clutch and brake pedal together with a switch in between. Push either pedal and it turned off the cruise. Had a cable that connected to the stock throttle. Worked great for years. I sold the vehicle in 1990 so it worked just fine. I did a little search on google and didnt have much luck finding a design similar to it. If I could find one I would install it. Saves on tickets. If any one knows of a kit like it let us know.
