My tranns has been sitting for years and need some new stuff. Preferably something made in this century.

Q is: Who's got a really good ATF?

Do I go with the cheap stuff or get a name brand? Sorry, I'm not used to ATs.

I don't know why, but I feel swapping stuff like this takes life away from it. It's had a fluid in it it knows and is used to, now I'm gonna put something else in it, and don't know if it'll be worse or better....but it needs it.

I'd like to put the best in it money can buy but the last time I did that my other AT, it did not like it.

Should I flush it with one cheapo type and than put the good stuff in it?

WWYD?

Best you can get is prolly gonna be toyota factory fluid, but your going to pay a hefty premium for it, and other stuff is pretty much the same thing. Not a huge investment for the factory stuff tho your just gonna have to go to your local dealer and get some on order or hope they have some in the shop they can sell yah.

I just had a shop check the filter and hook my 80 transmission up to a B&G fluid exchange machine. We used 16 quarts of Amsoil universal ATF (80 holds 12). It wasn't the cheap way to go but I'm satisfied that I don't need to worry about the transmission for a long time. Transmission had 113k on it.

i think you are over thinking this.
high quaility fluid like Royal Purple is what you use when you are drag racing. NAPA ATF part number 75-200 is what you use in your stock truck
