'93 FZJ80 and randomly have wooden brakes this morning. Looks like my booster went out because with or without the vac line hooked up brakes feel the same. I've already deleted the ABS and have a new AISIN master cylinder / OEM booster vac hose I installed about 6mo ago. No signs of fluid loss at any of the calipers or M/C. Truck drove to work and back Friday on fine, went to move it this morning and it wants to drive through the brakes in drive without a lot of pressure on the pedal. No vacuum gauge but thumb over the end of the vac hose feels strong. Brakes seem to stop better the longer the pedal is held down so seemingly the booster is still building up some vacuum internally.

Is there any consensus on who makes the best aftermarket replacement booster? I am leaving for Windrock on the 18th so I need to get something quick.

OEM is available $$$$, swollen is another trusted one and the city racer is the budget option.

I have a bunch of working OEM boosters we've pulled off for hydroboost conversions.

Seems like the Seiken booster may be discontinued for the FZJ80.

Anyone know where the Booster sold by City Racer is manufactured??

PDI in Australia if you want the best in my opinion, OEM second for a bolt in.

PDI is fast to ship and stand behind their products. We had a bad part from them once and they had a new part to me without question the next day.

Cheers

if you don't have a loud noise and a high idle you probably just need new booster check valve or take yours out and unstuck it. replacing the whole thing for prevention sake isn't a terrible idea though either. Terrain tamer also has a larger one, not sure if it's the same as PDI or not.

Thanks all for the replies. That PDI option looks cool but needing to get this going by next week I went ahead and bought the unit from Cruiser Teq since they had it in stock with the gaskets and could get it shipped today.

We have several OEM and the aftermarket market units both in stock in Orlando and could have to you tomorrow. The OEM are a lot nicer though, we only use the aftermaket ones when installing on older FJ40's

i just did this project and purchased the same unit from City Racer as well.

I'd suggest going with an OEM unit because the old OEM unit will come out without lifting the engine up. A new OEM unit will go in the same way, but the one from City Racer requires engine lifting, and a slew of cusswords, a daughter with double joints and tons more patience than me. The aftermarket one has a protrusion on the circumference that is larger than the protrusion of the oem one. This protrusion contacts the upper intake manifold corner and makes your life a living hell.

wow, i'm so impressed right now. I had to call my 20 yo daughter to come and help as I was so pissed off. I had to meet the fellas seven hours away in UT and was getting so angrier by the min. It was totally worth getting roasted by her while she helped; wouldn't have it any other way! The under dash work was something I didn't want to do and she stepped up again. I was running five hours late but I did manage to get to UT but the fellas were gone somewhere else by then.

i'm a proud papa, no lie. She enlisted her mom's help (lives a mile down the street) to come and help tear the top end down for a HG project on her 3rd gen Runner last year. Oh yeah, she built the bumpers on her rig at my house two years ago with some supervision of course!
