I turbo'd my 2H which is a lot like a 3B I suppose. No fuel aneroid, just turned the fuel screw up a hair. My gas mileage actually increased quite a bit with the turbo, more complete burn as it was struggling before..

The cummins witha 9cm2 housing would probably work pretty well. If you wanted me to see what I could dig up I would be happy to. They yield a 3" exhaust which is nice, better than the 2.5" exhaust that all the gas turbos use (but you could easily adapt to 3" early for the same effect.

I have never owned a water cooled turbo other than what was OEM on these gasser Saabs I have owned. My previous gasser turbo Volvo was not water cooled. It makes for quicker shut down times but I do not think it is mandatory at all. All the Cummins turbos never came with a water cooled feature - to this day... On boost valvues. I ran about 12 psi max on my HJ60, 9 psi in a headwind or really pushing it on the flats and it worked very well. I think that is about right. They are indirect injection so I think it works a little better longevity wise to have a 'mild' turbo like 6-9psi when pushing it on the flats. It is still amazing the difference that low pressure makes...

So that is my $.02 on it. Here is a link to when I turboed my 2H using a junkyard turbo off a Mitsubishi 4.0L that was almost identical to a 2H, including even it's bolt pattern!

Out of interest what are they worth, the 9cm turbine housing Cummins Holsets? It looks like I can't get one here, easily anyway and if you could source one in good condition I would be interested in it.

Thanks in advance!

well I just about tossed my H1c. I think it was $15 shipped :) You can buy a brand new exhaust housing to whatever size you want for $150. H1C's are a dime a dozen. Something larger might be a little more. I bought my complete WH1C with a 12cm2 wastegated housing for $150 shipped. So not much. If you wanted to find one and were willing to pay the shipping I would be glad to help. There are tons of them on the turbodieselregister.com site (search the classifieds section) and on ebay. Also look for a HX55 which is HUGE and I believe also uses the same exhaust housing. Cummins turbo at ebay.com should yield some good results...

a lot of guys with 6BTs pull their HY35's (factory 9cm2 wastegated) because they are too restrictive for larger HP/torque engines over 200-300 hp like some of those Cummins guys are doing. That is probably the easiest option. Again I would be happy to helpout if I could. We recieve packages from Oz all the time, I'm sure it wouldn't be too hard or overly expensive to get it there either...

sure anything is possible. You would have to find/make the room for it. The 4BT turbo si the same as the 6 cyl ones, just has a smaller exhaust housing. Here is a photo of how I turboed my 2H.. I seem to recall space was at a premium so one of these large turbos might actually be an issue, I dunno...

WTF greeat link dude .. thanks .. !!!!

dude .. great great info ..

I have 22 - 25 PSI oil press at idle ( 600 rpm ) I thought is good. Also I seen your adapter " plate " that in the pic is attached to the turbo ..

Did you have a pic of the Mitsu turbo donnor . ?

In my plans with turbo setup is going with 3" exaust pipe ..

Thats a pretty nice setup. Except id be awfully worried about hanging a big turbo like that off of the exhaust manifold. Thats alot of stress for a high temperature manifold to carry, since it wasnt design for that application at all. It is a very nice fit though.

I was worried about that too but it actually has held up fine as far as I know. It is a little aweward but manifold studs hold the turbo in place in the oem confirugration, even with my huge-ass Cummins turbo, so I don't think it is that big a deal. Especially if you use a small little turbo or something like that, on the 3B or whatever... The more cyls the better for more stud bolts I suppose... :)

so if you look at that photo you'll see the elbow then there is a pipe welded to it that is about 1/2 a foot long. This is how the Mitsubishi we pulled it off was turboed... We shortened the extension a little bit for the 2H but overall I would say that is really the only 'ugly' part of the whole thing and it worked very well IMO... I can't say if there are long term issued but the truck is still on the road years later now. The guy who owns it posts up here once in a while so maybe he can chime in. At one point the PO (the guy before the previous owner but after me) has something likee 20 or 25 lbs going through it at low elevation Houston, with the turn of the fuel screw only... Said it was an absolutely rocketsip. Funny to think of a HJ60 with a 2H as a rocketship. I told him to turn it down for preservation of the engine which I think he did...
