Yes, it is disturbing when unelected bureacrats living off taxpayers money are in a position to dictate what you may or may not do in your personal life. What really galls me is the thought of thousands of soldiers dying in wars to protect our basic freedoms, only to have them ground away by these secretive parasites.

Having said that, since there is nothing posted on the CCMTA site about the 15 exemption issue, I did the rational thing of emailing them about 10 days ago to ask if they had a position on the subject. To date, they have not seen fit to dignify this taxpayers request with a response. I do believe I shall phone them tomorrow.

Another interesting topic on the CCMTA website is their Standing Committee on Drivers and Vehicles "Unusual Vehicles Project Group" whose purpose is to give the CCMTA a "Heads Up" on "Unusual Vehicles." I wonder what they define an "Unusual Vehicle" to be, since such information does not seem to be fit for public consumption.

Doesn't the fact that they feel the need to have an Unusual Vehicles Project Group simply highlight these bureacrat's discomfort with a fear of losing control? Seems to me, they better get used to the idea because change is what the world is now all about.

You can't tell me that some of the big auto manufacturers are also involved in getting this ball rolling. That wouldn't surprise me at all...

SOme of you might kill me for even mentioning this, but why 25 years? Why not ban them entirely? I know the desire to import someething of that age would be less, but if there are standards issues, why even let them in at all?

ANyway, keep your eyes peeled on this thread. I can't say much now but I have a feeling there will be some more devlopments in this shortly..

i have contacted them for a membership but no response... i suspect it is an exclusive club...
i wonder if anyone can attend their meetings...

So just doing some rough math.....

TC figures approx 60,000 vehicles imported since 2002.

Average sale lets say $10,000 price tag.

= 600,000,000.00 - more than half a BILLION dollar industry over 4 years.

Impressive.

In all seriousness, I volunteer to edit any documents for spelling/clarity. If we want to be taken seriously, then we need to project a clear, mature, educated image. However earnest A handicap person's view of the benefit of RHD may be, phrases like "I can't afford any beak downs..." and "She has found the biggest advantage is night driving" simply don't convey that image. Phrases like that will leave a simple person confused, and a person who can figure out the intended meaning will be unimpressed at best, comtemptuous at worst.
I can't promise precisely correct grammar, but I can clarify run-on sentences and make us look less like a group of country bumpkins and more like the lobby group we mean to be.

Duncan,

Thanks for the offer. Although we went through the main report with a fine tooth comb, we didn't have the time to go through the more personal accounts to as much detail. While they are ok, I see what you are saying.. If you have the time to make some recommendations, please feel free to email them to dchymko (at) ivoac.ca

cheers!

Thank you for taking the stand on this vital fact, Duncan!

I have offered to do translations from English to French and although I did not mention it specifically in order not to offend some of my French-speaking compatriots, I often cringe seeing how poorly people write and generally, express themselves, especially people who are in high positions in this life and should be at least minimally educated instead of being simply crassly powerful and wealthy.

I agree that allthough we need people of action like Wayne to get things going, we need diplomats to put our views in perspective and present them in such a way as to be palatable to those who are in power and decide things for us.

Knowing how many lawyers there are in our society and how much impact they have in our daily lives through regulations of all sorts, I find it surprising none has come forward so far regarding this issue.

Then again, although I find it unlikely, maybe lawyers are against JDM vehicles. I sincerely hope I am wrong. And, please! Pardon the profiling, I do not intend to offend anyone.

Chris

Although I don't have that much free time (I don't), it would be a pleasure to contribute, like I offered Wayne previously. Although I'm not here on a permanent basis, I usually come here once a day to check things out.

It seems that so far, the Quebec voice is almost silent. Not surprising I guess, considering how much more we end up paying for our vehicles here. Since I acquired my HDJ81, I have not seen a single other JDM, never mind another Land Cruiser, and I've driven more than 8,000 km from the south shore of Montreal to Tremblant. I even talked to someone who works for Transport Canada, and she did not know anything abouth the RHD issue.

in all seriousnes, you join sept last year, where was your offer to help when we NEEDED and ASKED for it?
so put up a revised edition. mind you i have to say i like your statement, "I can't promise precisely correct grammar, ", to me this says you are no better than the handicaped person that wrote that PERSONAL EXPERIENCE in the first place....

Wayne, last fall my wife and I were somewhat busy having our first child. Also, please bear in mind that I don't actually own a JDM yet.
As for my grammar not being "precisely correct", what I mean is that I am not a professional editor. If I see a comma splice and it doesn't look too bad, I may not replace that comma with a semicolon or a period. For anyone who doesn't know what I'm referring to, well, my grammar would be precisely correct enough for you.

Duncan,
I came across pretty gruff... allow me to appologise.

the "report" was actually a testimonial by a handicapped person to be added as justification for RHD use in Canada. my gut reaction was, if TC wants to thow out a testimonial due to the writting style and not the heart felt content then screw them.

It has been a LOOOONG 4 weeks of steady work on the new site and the reports, testimonials, organizing a fight for ALL the owners of the 15-year old imports both from Japan and from the rest of the world. I am tired and grumpy (more so than usual) and in reality i am just waiting for Mike Woods to make another mistake so i can unless a whole new set of hurt on him and his baby (the 15-year rule change)...i am deffinately in the right frame of mind for this.

once again, sorry for coming across gruff.

BTW, Doug is rewritting the testimonial to be more politicaly correct.

cheers and peace

Wayne, I too do not give a damn if the testimonial is written in perfect diplomatic English. The media and the public seek sincerity not perfect grammar. If Doug's testimonial gets a media spot, then it will have done the job. Frankly, TC does not care about handicapped people or they would have demanded better accessibility options from the NAM automakers. Maybe some of their political masters might also be moved by Doug's real statement.

Cheers, John

yah, this is what i menat...heart felt testimonial will move people (not all people) to consider the source as genuine...
the media loves this...
