Thank you.

Mickey Rubicon has a green 80 w/ a few stickers on it. I think they were referring to your cruiser's sitcker collection.

Oh yeah, welcome aboard!:flipoff2:

Haha, now it all makes sense! Thanks mate.

I love it when someone new to the board figures things out right away, ie.:flipoff2: It took me forever to get with it.

Nice rig and welcome. And:cheers: ,:flipoff2:

Thanks a lot mate, I appreciate the kind words.

I love that you fit massive tires on only 4" of lift. What ammount of fender trimming is necessary?

I think we took about 3/4 of an inch out of the rear radius of the arch, and at the front we took a wedge out of the rear of the front arches. About an hours work to cut neatly and a couple of hours with the mig to tidy it all up.

Welcome :flipoff2: nice introduction and sweeeeeet rig. Always jealous of the aftermarket goodies so readily available over there. It is getting much better over here though.

Yep, the cool aftermarket stuff is available here on the shelf. Let me tell ya, working here at BBM keeps me cashless! (Shameless plug:D )

This is Mickey Rubicon's ride.

nice truck there Rick

How have those axles held up under 40's? what shafts and birfields you using? can you give more info on those transfer case gears you are running? will they bolt nicely in the 96-97 rigs? do you beat her hard?-it looks like you do.

dusty

Gday mate,

So far the axles have beeen fine, I have been popping freewheeling hubs though, but I am thinking it is cheaper and easier to keep replacing these.
I run a CroMo CV, or birfield as you guys call them. Shafts are stock.
The transfer gears are Rockhopper reduction gears, and are made by an OEM gear cutter in Japan, so the quality is excellent. They offer 45% reduction in low range, and high range is unchanged. They go in easy and run super quiet. They will suit your rig, no worries at all.
I generally do give the old girl a beating, but try to drive with mechanical sympathy in mind. I will always try to crawl an obstacle first.
Since I have completed the build, it has been super reliable, only ever busting hubs as mentioned. I think I have created a pretty bullet proof rig, using off-the-shelf parts from my workplace, BBMotorsports. Let me know if you are interested in any parts and I will see what I can do for you.

Thanks for the interest in my rig.

BBM Rick.

rick I would love more info on those transfer case gears. do you have a link for them? a rare man runs 40's on his 80 over here. do you silly ausies do that on a regular basis?

dusty

I ve seen a few guys running 38's, and I know of one bloke who has 42 TSL's, but it is a comp only truck these days. Mine is my daily driver, fun car and comp car, it has to do it all for me. Every few weeks I take it 250km north for a few days as well, so it really is a workhorse for me. Motor could use a freshen up really.

40's on a 4" w/ (minor) trimming, simply amazing. Looks like you have it worked out really well. Great work! You're going to get a lot of guys (re)thinking . . .

 and welcome :flipoff2:

nice job!

curious: I thought that in Oz you couldn't modify your rigs very much with big tires etc without having them certified etc to drive on public roads. This the case where you're at?

That thing is sweet! I want to run 40's on my 80 so bad.

I would also be interested in the T/C gears and I would love it if you would sign up for a ROTW and really detail your build... so I can copy it!

There really isnt much to tell, it is quite basic, but I will look into this ROTW thing.

Still looking for that Rockhopper on FZJ80 information.

PM me your email addy and I will send you some info right away.

nice job!

This is certainly the case here in Sydney, it is not permissable to run anything bigger than a 33in tyre legally. I have the suspension mods certified, but not the rubber. I run the 80 with these tyres every day (in fact they are the only ones I own!) and have yet to get any greif from the law. If I do get a ticket, I will just change the tyres, present the truck for inspection and then swap em back!
