Morning Dave, Thanks. I put a single expanded metal panel in my sliders on the FJC and they turned out great as boot scrapers on those muddy runs. Great side benefit for sure. Grip tape is a forever maintenance item too. Take a look at Eric's 80 next time he has it out. His sliders stick out a little more and are laid flat to act as a step for the kids. They are covered with expanded metal front to back. The idea was to prevent little legs from going through and possibly hurting them badly if they fell.

I installed the castor correction bushings today along with new frame side bushings, HUGE difference. Dexter drives like a proper Land Cruiser again. I also replaced the brake pads all around and freed up a caliper, it no longer pulls to the left while stopping. Ahhhh the little things in life

So I was getting tired of looking at the 80 and seeing this, DULL neglected paint and some newer paint with orange peel. The photos do not do it justice, Huge difference in the overall look of the truck

Several sheets of 2000 grit paper and 11 hours of wet sanding and buffing out with Diamond cutter and it is a different truck, about half way done with one coat of wax

Heather got Dexter a new Radio. Jensen VX7020 with NAV and a bunch of other features. Now I have to figure out how to get the dash apart.

It has a volume knob with knotched feel to it

I pulled the radio out tonight, I still have to do all the soldering from the adapter plugs to the radio harness. Has a microphone for the bluetooth interface with the phone and Heather also picked up a back up camera. Camera has no instructions, shocking.

If you have considered upgrading the audio in your rig, DO IT!! New stereo plus 6 Kicker speakers makes for some good sound in the 80! Stock sound was sad by comparison

Just came in from playing with the new head unit some. COOL we synced Heather's phone into the blue tooth. We were watching you tube videos on her phone with the sound going through the stereo. I am diggin this thing in a big way

Update on the radio/NAV. BEST $260.00 spent HANDS DOWN! We went up to Hurricane Creek over the weekend and every bit of the state road system up there was on the NAV. This all included the normal elevation and GPS information you would expect along with TOPO to a degree. There was a set of numbers displayed we did not understand, when Heather found it in the manual she discovered they were street address numbers for the state roads/trails. They jived with a couple street addresses along the more traveled state gravel roads.

Dave had a brake issue and Heather found a feature that will lead you to the nearest mechanic/auto parts store, in his case 22miles from where we were camped, 5.5 miles of it on the state gravel roads. Dave made it home safe.

Bottom line on this head unit so far, this thing is feature packed and we have just started to learn all it's features. I'd buy it again in a heart beat. We'll see how it preforms long term.

thanks for the review... i was looking at those, then was looking at the pioneers.... after that review i'll probably just pick up the jensen...

my question's about speakers.... you replaced 6? 2 in the dash? i'm deciding what to do with the LX, i was planning on extending the harness and just taking out the stock amplifier...

which speakers did you use, exactly, and how was installation?

Keep in mind that the head unit is leaps and bounds above the stock unit but may not be the best of the best of the current crop of radios out there. The pioneer may well be a better unit.

There were already kicker speakers in the rear doors and in the headliner in the rear of the truck. The front doors had empty holes and we installed new 6" kickers there. I have no clue if the dash speakers have been replaced. So we have a total of 9 speakers in the truck. Install oof the two speakers was a breeze as was installing the head unit itself, just a bunch of soldering. Make sure that you order the proper harness for your rig, makes a big difference.
