I would powerwash or at least hose off the carpet while you have it out. Don't mess with the jute backing just wash the face of the carpet and let it dry. I bet there has been years of cleaning products put into that carpet and would benefit tremendously from a thorough rinse and scrub with a nylon brush. Image washing your hair and never rinsing it!!!!

I've pulled so many carpets from Cruisers and power washing it will leave it so much softer and cleaner than you can imagine!

I would love to know what ur trying to say
I applaud your enthusiasm, your jump in there attitude & determination to get it done. What I am trying to say is with the amount of rust that I am seeing, you don't want to put and lot of money into this reg. Things like dynamat are not going to be money well spent. We still have not seen pictures of the undercarriage of your reg. What I can see is holes through the hood & floorboards, The rear drivers door took a heavy hit. and things like the rusty hood latch are going to continue to plague you. I don't want to discourage you but at the same time I hate to see you through good money after bad. I am really surprised that the LC shop gave you the green light on this reg with what I'm seeing on the out side I am concerned with what the under side looks like.JMHO ;)

Thanks for your honesty @brosky
Il post up a bunch of under body shots to see what people think...I really think the frame is ok..I hope I can get good representation in the pics..

I got quoted around 2 grand for the rocker job painted... first- seems like a decent price. What do u guys think? Keep in mind NYC prices.
Second- if I add that to the upfront cost of the rig im under 5k... true cost of ownership I know includes maintenance items, and I know shes not cheap... but let's be honest guys... this is a Toyota... and their flagship model nonetheless, I've only owned one Toyota before...a 97 40th LC . And it was pretty reliable ;)

I guess there a lot of other cars n trucks I could buy for 5 grand, but I just prefer this one.

I'm so crazy after I fix it up, I might sell it so I can buy another one and do it all over again lmao

I love this s*** guys

And that is why we do this... Most everyone here is not in it to make money, we are here to enjoy the journey of owning a 20 + year old flagship.

If you got rotten dog food and a mummified mouse in your brand new car, you’d be pissed. Find one in a 25 year old Land Cruiser, you shake your head, laugh, and have a good story :).

I'd focus on that Rocker/door area repair and work my way out on structural, then repairs , rust then pm. cosmetics last. fwiw don't consider rust cosmetic. .

Your oil leaks are the LAST thing you need to focus on.........

They are considered life support at this point.......

Well, certainly worse rust cases than that have been brought back from the scrap pile, but you have your work cut out for you.

Lots of grinding/scraping all that rust scale off, and then treating with a rust preventative like Fluid Film will go a long way towards extending life. Read up on posts by @Red Merle as he totally brought his rusty 80 back from the dead.

What's that tool called pneumatic nail gun...?
I should buy a good set of goggles for working down there
Needle gun

Just think about when you were playing Halo and you'd pick up the Needler......

5K plus a s*** load of time... i just sold a cruiser, no rust, on 37s for 6K

you could fly to the south and buy one and be money ahead but what do i know.

yes i know we have talked and text about parts but i still think you are wasting time with this thing. no way in hell i would try and fix it.

Dont worry I'm not so far gone that I have forgotten all our talks, and your point. And you're right!
It's what I'd love to do... I could be some kind of northeast connection to tie the beautiful parts from down south to our sad sad rust belt.
We need to talk again...

Well, at least it's got rust holes in the hood, so it's got that going for it. Or not.

OP, don't take that the wrong way, just thought it could be funny. Or not.

I would suggest finding out the extent of any remaining rust before putting a ton of money into fixing what you can see. Rear seat belt mount bolts, rear hatch (window and seal), rear quarter panels, rocker panels, etc. I bet you'll find more rust in the body if you dig.

Yea,
I think it's time to look under the flares 😳

I do love the idea of running it bare back, sliders, no flares, etc. Super clean and oem look...listen to me putting the damn cart before the horse again! Cant help myself sheesh
