Just gotta ask..

With the door locks, tail lights, one mirror, door handles, and front fender lights all missing..
and I don't really see any wear marks around the door lock holes..

has this been repainted? ..or indeed, is it the original paint job?

From what the past owner told me, it has never been painted... but your post has made me go out and go over every inch of it. The paint is all uniformed, from front to back, and there are signs of rust, mainly around the edges of panels... like the hood, under the doors, and around fender lips. I also found this...

This is the only run i found , even on the bottom edges of the hood i found none. Could this be a repaint? Maybe so, i'm no paint expert. Was Toyota's quality control that poor when this truck was built? Who knows. He never really went into alot of details about it.
I do know that its not as straight as i thought.

I'm not gonna complain though. Ever since i got it home, half the people that stop by wanna see the "Old Jeep"

At least my cat likes it. :flipoff2:

Get that son-of-tabby offa there :D

If you look close, those rumblings can be seen in some of your early pictures on the side.
Didn't say anything then. Thought it might be the camera... or the operator... judging by your first set of pic's :hillbilly:

Oh well. No matter what.. you've got a head turner that'll rival Denise Richards :grinpimp:

Fluff,

I've never actually seen a Cruiser that shade of blue/green (I think that your colour code more-closely resembles the colour that is showing through on the scratches on the side of the bed or your interior). Also, the roof is not often the same colour as the body, nor are the hold-down hooks on the hood. I've also never seen a sag in factory paint. Additionally, that rubber beading between the rain gutter and the sides of the top is meant to be black rubber, not paint-covered.

That said, the spot-weld marks on the bed are actually a good sign, as they indicate that there is no bondo under there. From the photos, I would also think that the interior is original paint. Over-all, it looks to be in decent condition, and I would be very, very suprised if it was not re-painted. But who cares?

Either keep it as it is, and use it is a work truck/play thing or sand it down and re-paint it. Either way, you will have a great ride. You will be amazed how easy it is to strip that truck down to nothing and re-build it. You have a wonderful platform to start with, and you will have a great machine when you are done... and if the cat likes it, you can't go wrong.

Josh... you have a very good eye....especially all the way from Australia ! Now i'm kinda hacked off. Is there a site that actually shows the colors of the paint code ?

How about - Judson Green 25372 Code 632...?

or - torquoise ...? ...from the same page.

I think it's Torquoise. ..from the same year..1977

or Riviera Blue .....:D ...again from the same year. ...hmmmm.. Riviera blue for the win :grinpimp:

Not that i plan to do a restoration any time soon, but if i do, is it best to leave the spot weld marks visible or cover them up? I know on some restored cars that they want all the factory markings left in tact but i'm not sure in this case if this would apply.

I don't think they are supposed to be so apparent (the spot welds). what happens is rust get between the two pieces of sheet metal and start expanding the metal out accentuating the spot welds. I am getting that on my truck and i need to deal with it soon. damn rust...

Beautiful find. I am so jealous. wow. If you find any old jaguars, or hell maybe a 50s 300sl gullwing for the same price, let me know :p.

Take a picture of the jags. Boy, it is amazing the cars that we let waste away. Sad.

Sounds awesome! So that was the first crack at startup?? after checking fluids. That body is near perfect, hell it is perfect...
WOW!

Its actually started when i was bleeding the lines to the injectors...scared the caca outta me. But this is the first time it idled for more than 10 seconds.

:lol::lol::lol: I'm just picturing the frantic shutdown procedure.....

ya..i was wondering about that myself. Without a tach... i have no idea what its turning but it sounds a little high to me. I was wondering if after it warmed up a bit that the idle might drop ..kinda like a cold idle setting. At least it started.
