Thanks... that means alot to me. I really do appreciate all the help i have gotten from all of you guys & gals here. I believe that your imput has kept me from making several mistakes.

ya..i was wondering about that myself. Without a tach... i have no idea what its turning but it sounds a little high to me. I was wondering if after it warmed up a bit that the idle might drop ..kinda like a cold idle setting. At least it started.

It'll probably idle faster when it warms up, so don't count on it. Check the hand throttle first, I guess - should be above the pedal, off the lower edge of the dash - make sure its pushed all the way in. If yes, check the linkage, specifically that the arm on the butterfly valve rests all the way against the hardstop when at idle.

If all of that is OK, then replace the diaphragm in the injector pump. Its not a big job, but a little tricky. LOTS of threads on it in Diesel Tech.

Sounds great tho.

Been waiting to see/hear it run. Sounds good. It's a six-cylinder so I don't know if it is idling fast or not, sounds different than a 3B. If it uses the same type of IP as the 3B it will idle faster when warmed up.

First, I am very jealous. That is in my top 5 of all-time dream vehicles you got there.......and for 800 dollars????!!!! Get outta here!!!:flipoff2:

You are a VERY lucky man and we are VERY happy for you (IF YOU PROTECT IT WITH YOUR LIFE!!)

I agree that the paint is not original. If I were you, I would do a full 100 point restoration on that thing so that it can last for another 30 years; probably more with modern paints, coatings, etc.

I know the position that you are in because I currently own probably the oldest and best condition ORIGINAL condition CJ5 EVER MADE and have gone through the debate of "leave it as is original because it will NEVER be original again if you mess with it" or "restore to protect and preserve and so it can actually look nice and last". I feel your pain! HAHA!

My Advice:

Blast the entire body and frame and everything and chem dip/galvanize/paint/coat. Use only NOS parts or EXACT reproductions. FULL resto.

You are our hero!!!! Congrats!!!!! Better do something REALLY nice for someone to keep your divine Kharma. Maybe you can start your own website for this gift from the gods?

Take care and keep posting!

CJ

to hell with the resto, clean it up and ENJOY IT!!! wow what a great find, reminds me of the book, "Cobra in the Barn". They are still out there. For all of your car geeks out there like myself, if you've not read that book mentioned, BUY IT.

I had hoped Castro and the States would finally end this BS over visitation to cuba as I know there are tons of classic iron over there waiting to be discovered again. I wish I had a British passport...

Hell, my friends all go to Cuba all the time. I'd say more people around here go to Cuba than Mexico for sun and sand. I would too if I had money left after working on my cruiser. Yeah, that whole Cuba off limits thing is getting old. So is Castro. Won't be long now....:meh:

I have a bad rattle in the doors...so i pulled the driverside panel off to see what it was...

Post up if you see any old Mustangs.

Very nice cruiser by the way!
