Ok dude, I'm sure not sure how old you are but I hope you're about 18 and have a lot of good sense. Dont ever sell this cruiser. Hard times will come and go, you will never have another opportunity like this again, use it -abuse it and then clean it up and drive it down main street and turn heads!
Great find ! Lucky bastard. BTW we all get to take turn driving it at the get togethers (rules are rules)

i third the dont restore it... if they are being honest i think ALOT of people will tell you the most stuff breaks while your in the process of fixing something else... (and its always that little crap, like breaking an oil dipstick tube while installing headers... or u bust a TINY freakin reflector that cost like 50 bucks...)

just clean and wax the hell out of it... (see if that stuff they adverstise on TV works the liquid wax stuff thats supposed to restore a shine to ANYTHING... it maybe for crap but its only like 10 bucks @ advance..)
 
Keep your eyes peeled for a 1927 Duesenburg Model J. :steer: I've always wanted one of those. :hhmm:I'd like one in pretty good nick, so I don't have too much work to do on it. And of course, it needs to be less than $1,000 so I can just buy it without clearing it with the wife....but I know you can find it.:) Keep me posted, Fluff, I'm ready to buy it today.

I guess i'm lucky in the sense that i drive all over S.Texas during the summer and am always on remote ranches & little towns people have never heard of. These seem to be the places where i see cars that are stashed away behind a house or in a field of junk cars. I generally don't buy any of them but i kinda keep track of them. With in the past 4 months , i have found the following:

55 or 56 Chevy belair 2 door (yard full of old ****py cars)
69/70 AMC AMX (smacked in the front)
69 GTO Judge (on blocks -owner wouldnt sell it to me)
4- Corvairs (bad shape- one Monza)
63 split window vette (behind run down gas station)

Ii haven't found a Duesenburg Model J Josh, but i will keep my eyes peeled. lol
I did once find a Armstrong Siddeley Sapphire but i was too young to know what it was.

in 1926 for the brothers' engineering skills (and the brand name) in order to produce luxury cars. Hiring Fred Duesenberg to design the chassis and an engine that would be the best in the world, the newly revived Duesenberg company set about to produce the Model J, which debuted at the New York Car Show of 1928. In unsupercharged form, it produced a whopping 265 horsepower (198 kW) from a dual overhead camshaft straight 8 and was capable of a top speed of 119 mph (192 km/h), and 94 mph (151 km/h) in 2nd gear. The supercharged version, sometimes called the SJ, was reputed to do 104 miles per hour (167 km/h) in second and have a top speed of 135–140 mph (217–225 km/h) in third. Zero-to-60 mph (100 km/h) times of around eight seconds and 0-to-100 mph (160 km/h) times of 17 seconds were reported for the SJ in spite of the unsynchronized transmissions, at a time when even the best cars of the era were not likely to reach 100 mph (160 km/h). Duesenbergs generally weighed around two and a half tons; up to three tons was not unusual, considering the wide array of custom coachwork available.

This was in the early 1900's folks!
 
:meh: I see that stuff all the time in my travels. Duzis, 40's, a couple of Rolls here and there. Most barns are filled with that junk.

Is it still available? Do you know how rare and valuable these things are? A split window is one of the rarest Stingrays out there.

If you ever come across a 66 or 67 GTO with the pillared sport coupe hardtop... and you can get the guy to part with it... I will buy it.
 
Mike- so you can see why I want a Duesenberg.....:) I'll sell you that BJ40 cheap- I've only got about us$2500 in it... new engine, not too much rust..... it was in a barn for 5 years here in Australia.

Was that AMX a Mark Donahue? That might be worth a decent quid or two. You ought to see what that bloke would sell it for and try to pick it up. I wouldn't mind getting my hands on that Goat, but I think I have to limit myself to just a few collector cars for now:D-at least until we move back to New Mexico....

I'm glad there are people like you- it breaks my heart when I see really cool cars just sitting in a field somewhere. When I worked in Roswell, NM, I used to drive there from Santa Fe regularly. There was a farmer there that had about 9 or 10 nice old Mustangs and 3 69 Camarros just sitting around (not in, sadly) his barn. I used to always hope that someone would come along and save them.

The AMX i found seemed to be just a basic model. Yet again...i didnt stop because it looked like it had a fight with a telephone pole in the front..and lost. Next time i'm there i'll take a few pics of it.

If your in Australia... keep an eye open for a 1973 Ford Falcon XB GT. I'd love to have one... you know.. Mad Max style. :beer:

I'll keep my eyes open, but those things sell for silly money here. Aussies are bloody proud of their American/Australian muscle cars. Registration is hideously expensive here, so you don't often see cars like that on the road, like we do in the States. I pay $1,000 per year for the registration on my FJ40, so my days of having several cars to drive are over until I go home.:)

interesting reading the interest in this tojo,here in oz they are common,they outnumber shorties by maybe 10 to 1 here,just around the corner from me a bloke is selling one,well he is trying to,but yeah here you can get a few tomorrom,but a good FJ40 is hard,love the articles here also
 
Bump, Fluffy did you ever get this truck? Please don't leave us hanging.

Sorry...yes i did get the truck. As you saw in the photo's, it had 4 flat tires. I ordered 4 new 7.50X16 mud grips and had them mounted on the split rims. Not many tire guys wanted to mess with the split rims and i found a guy but he charged me $25.00 a tire to mount them. Tires were $117.00 each, so it was close to $600 by the time you add the tubes, mounting & tax. These are not the rims i want to run on a day to day basis, so i'm on the look out for a nice set of steel rims so i can run radial mud grips on it.

We pulled it back to my home and cleaned all the **** out of it. Good news : Inside a beer cooler in the cab, we found the front & back turn indicators. Also found a set of Honduras license plates tucked up under the back of the truck. Found a bunch of paperwork in the glove box but it seems that was also a home for several rats. Needless to say, not much is left.

Right now we're checking out all the electrical system for chewed wires, cleaning out the fuel tank(s) and letting the "Marvel Mystery Oil" do its job in the cylinders.
 
I'll have plenty of them. I'm gonna take a bunch of the bed mounted auxiliary fuel tank this afternoon. Its pretty kewl actually. It looks just like a tool box that runs from side to side. It even has 2 trays when you lift the top but when you slide the tray(driver side) towards the center, there is a filler neck under it. Once i get it out, i'll take alot of pics and measure it.
