So I did it today. It was not as straight forward as I thought it would be, but at the end of the day I am about 85% done not counting paint.

Awesome!

Awesome job
id love to do this... if i could ever find a set in the US and i had money.

Looks good where you going to hang you license plate.
The factory hanger mounts on the left door looking from the back guess aussies dont use plates.

That's probably his 15% :D

Drill holes for it would be the only option I think. Unless he hangs it from his bumper.

Let's wait and see what he does :wrench:

The plate goes in the recess in the left door. There should be a number plate lamp there too. But if he's gonna put a dule wheel carrier on maybe the 60 bumper with the plate box in it? Nice job though

I do have the factory light to install but I am going to make a backing plate and apoxy it to the inside of the door and tap holes so I can change the plate without pulling the door panel. I also have to sort out a pressure switch so the cargo light will still come on when the door is opened and last but not least machine some shims so the doors are a little closer in the middle to allow for a proper seal. I am using washers now, but that just won't due.

Cool work there ,
Any more details and pics of the conversion

I may be able to round up a few more pics and I will try and right out a step by step of what had to be done to make this work, tomorrow.

more pics

I have a few more pics, most of the stuff is when it was finished,
So a few things to know about this conversion is that the US FJ62 was never suppose to have barn doors. There is nothing predone for this conversion and the most difficult part was fabricating a way to mount the upper strike plate. On the US version the upper part of the door jam has a curved design, on the OZ cruisers and I am sure ones available in other markets this part of the body is flat to allow for the striker to mount easily. Also I dont know if the jams being reinforced for the doors move the doors closer together but I am going to have to shim them from both sides to get them to seal against each other properly. The good news is it is can be done, but I would not recommend this for anyone who does not have some pretty good fabrication skills, but more importantly the patients to do it right the first time there is not a lot of room for error in this and you can really mess things up fast.

Thats odd that the body has the indent for the lower strike plate but had a different profile up top not to allow the upper strike plate mine being a Fj62 JDM has the ambi doors one would think they would use the same body with a few minor variations.
My original light assembly had TOYOTA but had deteriated and the replacement I ordered is the same as yours with the flat finish.
Also the JDMs have electric rear door lock with the switch on the drivers door.

I see that you're in NC. Have you heard of ONSC? You should join up!
Welcome to ONSC!

Did you pick the doors up from exmouth ;) .that's a awesome fishing and camping place.

Yea I was surprised too when I got to that point, the thing is there is no way to tell without taking off the upper door I will post a pic up of mine and a JDM version. And no I did not know there was a cruiser club in NC, where Are you guys out of.

Sending a PM. Most guys are in either Raleigh or Charlotte, but we have members everywhere.

PM incoming.

Sounds good and thanks for letting me know, I'm in Raleigh all the time so that would be no big deal. And the doors came from close to exmouth, a friend of mine commissions the restoration of classic cars and ships them to OZ for the buyer in his own container so I sweet talked him into tracking down a set of doors for me and bringing them back for me.

Lower hinge

I had to pull the tail light out so I snapped a shot of the lower hinge install on the inside, the only bonus to the install was there were to places in the pinch weld that lined up with the bolt holes on the lower hinge so it gave me a good starting place.
