not that i know of. that would be some of the most punishing off roading in the world. A pig in the 1000...

with some nice deaver springs and some 2.5 or 3" bypasses it would be fun in sportsman, but would get KILLED in stock full(suspension/steering restrictions). It might fit into class 3, but it would get smoked there too.

Yeah, but it would be a blast! Just finishing would be cool with me. A lot of guys in my town race the 1000, but they race bikes or have $$$$$$$ Buggies. Hmmmm......

did you all see the what happened to the 80 series? the article in trails last year.

 this outta be good;)

I rolled it down a hill and ruined the truck... One of the partners rolled it earlier in the night and hammered it pretty good, I got in and put the final nail in the coffin(obviously not on purpose).

My Baja 1000 recommendations if you just have to build a landcruiser: 91-92 FJ80 in stock mini. get a non us 5 speed, build a cage and add a fuel cell. that is about the only way a land cruiser would ever be competetive. In stock full(where you would have to run the 4.5L 93-97) you are competing against wider and longer pickups, with alot! more horsepower.

Why 91-92? Wouldn't you need to keep the 3FE there? My 3FE is not all that powerful...

heres the issue:

stock full: any sized production engine that originally came in the vehicle. so in a new tundra, youre competing against the 370HP. with a maybe 190hp vehicle... In an 85 F250 you had a 460 v8. lots of power with the engine building rules. In addition the FZJ80 front suspension will NEVER come close to the travel you can get out of a TTB ford pickup, or some other vehicles.

Stock mini: limited to 4.3L 3fe with a 5 speed is a plenty powerful with good torque. this will make up some difference between the lesser 4.0 vs max size of 4.3... Also in this class the strength of the suspension components will make up for the weight of the FJ80, as well as the fairly limited suspension travel...

Why a non-US 5 speed? Pretty good suggestions. Would you race the Baja again?

Auto A440F is a slu. robs way too much power. Folks with 5 speeds behind the 3FE dont complain nearly as much. As for the non-US option, b/c the H151 with H2FA case is better and stronger than trying to fit a H55F and split case in the truck, b/c it came stock that way outside the US...

As for racing Baja again: ABSOLUTELY!!! just not in an FZJ80 in stock full. seeing stock mini, a 91-92 FJ80 would be competitive after you dialed in the suspension...

Thinking about class 12. or building an FJ80 for stock mini. Either way your looking at $$$ to get near competitive.

As you stated, it takes big $$$$$ to be competitive. I would be happy to just do it and finish it. But still, in a moderately modified FJ55. :steer:

An FJ55 would be fun in sportsman, deavers, and bypasses and hyd/air bump stops would help out a ton. ditch the bellcrank steering.

anyway you look at it, its still $1500 for a good fuel cell(dont skimp), $500 min for seats, $300 for belts, $1000 in cage materials, $4000 for bypass shocks, $1200 for good springs, etc... Adds up fast.

Keep in mind that the min required avg speed to get through checkpoints is 25 mph avg. thats faster than you think in the long run in an FJ55. slower than that and they start closing checkpoints so you wont get an official finish...

No kidding! I always wondered what happened to the slow guys. I agree, the Sportsman Class would be the way to go.
Yes, 25 MPH is not all that slow when competing in that race. I have wanted to run it for 30 years now.
I have heard that the Mint 400 was rougher on a vehicle. From what I have seen, the Baja looks like the toughest.

OT Warning Alert!

I did not know you could fit a H151 to a F motor - can you?

Is the H2FA case a pass side drop?

In other words, could I source these and put them in my Pig easier than H55 and split case?

What were the original vehicles the H151 & H2FA were in?

TIA,

Ah! So this is listed for "fits 1/90-8/92 FJ80 3FE motor", not earlier 3FE's

Price-wise it does not look to be advantageous ofer the H55F and split case...

I got excited b/c I have a 3FE in my '74 55 and would like to go 5 spd someday.

Any advantages of H151 vs. H55?
