bad tail light

I noticed I had a tail light out on my LJ77. Assumed it was just the bulb and replaced it. Still no tail light. Checked the fuses, those were ok but replaced them anyway.

Swapped bulb with the other tail light, no change. Brake light works, just the tail light.

Before I start trying to track down a break in the wire, is there anything else to check?

Is the bulb making good contact in the socket? Maybe check the socket with a multimeter to see if it's getting power or not? Make sure the socket is not rusted etc.? Or pull the tail light off (super easy couple screws I believe), and measure at the connector.

I think the tail lights are daisy-chained from one light to the other. Depending on which one is not working, there is a little or a lot of wiring to check. The long run would be from one side of the vehicle to the other, perhaps passing out and under the floor.

There are 2 fuses, left side and right side. Having an issue with the left (drivers) side.

I may have to remove the light fixture from the bumper. Only the bumper lights work. The tail lights on the body are a "fog" light on the left only and the 2 backup lights.

Check the plug, I just replaced one that was pretty worn out.

I agree. Normally I would accuse the ground but since one of the filaments is working it should not be that.

Took the ligjt off the bumper and found a broken wire.

Spliced it and ligjt works. The bad news is that there are some brittle wires in the harness that will need to be felt with eventually.
