Good day!

Took a long hiatus from participating in the forum-albeit visiting/reading it frequently.

Need help (and pardon for my ignorance): where can I buy the bolt-on JDM auxiliary fan?. I've done quite some searching/googling but to no avail.

I really like this solution as it doesn't need mods or mild fabs (a-la Cdan et-al). All I want is adding a manually-controlled redundant forced-air system

Some context: Couple of years ago I did a complete rebuild of the original cooling system, including the OEM blue-clutch. I've never had any overheating issues with my rig...and I'd like to keep it this way (165K and counting). As per the Scangauge, I rarely exceed 200F during the hot and humid northern Georgia summer season with the A/C a full blast and loaded rig, but since I'm planning quite some trail miles for this summer (not to mention the dense traffic here)...I'd rather keep the peace of mind. I've been playing with the old clutch with a 20K silicone fluid (which seems to work OK)...but I kinda like the idea of redundancy with the electric fan.

Any other ideas are welcome indeed

Thanks in advance. Cheers!

mishimoto makes a small electric fan for around $70. mishimoto makes some high quality radiators and I would imagine the fans are as good. I just wish they made radiators for the 80...

@ranma21 can get them for $305. not in country yet. PM him.

Hi there

Quick update. Since the JDM solution became a bit cumbersome to get, I went with the @thedoughboy alternative (congrats for the excellent write-up BTW). SPAL Auxiliary Fan Install

The good news: works like a champ (this Spal fan really moves air!). Seating in traffic at 95F+ ambient temperature, A/C, radio..the coolant temperature (as per Scangauge) drops from 197-8F to 190-3F rather quickly while the cabin is cool and comfy.

The bad news is that the alternator (still the original one) is showing its age and also drops the voltage to13.5 or even 13.2. I seldom see voltages over 14 lately. Time for a new one.

I'll keep things OEM. If can get the brackets, I'll go with @Photoman Toyota 150Amp solution. Otherwise, a reman 80 Amp Toyota. But I really like Bill's

Cheers!

I don't think changing the alternator will help your voltage issue unless you change it to a different model from a different vehicle. The stock 80 series alt doesn't have a high amp rating, changing the brushes might help though but the voltage you are seeing with the high electrical draw is normal.

I just run a 9" generic aux fan. It was like $50 from Summit and it works and fits no problem. I just switch it on if I see temp starting to climb above 200F on my Ultragage.

You would have to have it rewound and add more windings in order to boost the output. Somewhere on this website there's a thread on swapping to a GM alternator...

That's the one with the bi-annual replacement program, isn't it?

I know I could still get quite some miles from the current alt. However, I'm planning a long trip back to the west (San Juan's mountains and other remote areas around the 4 corners) so I'm doing quite some PM stuff-hence the quest for a new OEM-style alt. As Dave said, the Sequoia 150 amps is a sensible option worth pursuing
Thanks everyone
Cheers
