Well, a 5 speed swap is much cheaper than your reman auto trans quote. I think you could do it for $600.
$300 trans/tcase/flywheel
$100 clutch
$100 hydraulics
$100 misc parts to get it all going

don't have that kind of money I would rather stick my money in my fj40.

No the od light is inop on dash took it to shop this morning dont have time to monkey with it can't afford to have it brake down on the job. They drained it today pan was full of crap so they were going to pull it and find what is wrong pump is good on it thats some good news. Also I don't think the od even works cause when I try and use it it takes forever for it to kick in then it can't make up its mind, I think it was just its time. I was going to change the fluid in it as well as the filter but figure if I did it and it did'nt fix problem that wqas money I could have used for the rebuild.

A five speed conversion here in cali just for used parts if you can find them is going to be around 1200.00 unless you know somewhere that could ship them here for that. I know when I was looking in area for 5 sp for my 40 650 just for tranny no guarantee uther than it shifts no bench test on it.

wow, that sucks. I didnt think the prices were that out of line there. But comparing cruiser parts prices to mini truck parts prices is like comparing apples to oranges. Another option might be to find a cheap complete 5 speed truck with a blown 22RE and good W56/t-case, take what you need for the swap, and part the rest out to recoup some of the money. I did that on my last 4Runner and actually made a profit on the parts truck. Lots of variables though.

Dammit. I have TWO W56 trannys sitting here, both are in the way, I really need to get rid of them. And I'm pretty sure I have all the other parts that you'd need too. I know I have a pedal set, and a spare clutch MC, maybe even an extra flywheel.

Maybe a Mudship??

Well the verdict is in got the call from the grimm reaper today tranny was shot needs rebuilt:mad: 2500 for the rebuild of tranny and transfer not as bad as I exspected but still not cheap, tranny guy said it is one of the best trannys and I have a rare truck as most did not come with the 340 least thats what he said and it would last me forever after he rebuilds it as long as I take care of it. so basically I will have a new truck after this as engine was rebuilt 2 yrs ago body is in superb condition all I have left to do and thank god I can do it is replace cv shaft. I also have to give credit to the tranny as it was still getting me around even though it was trashed but subconciosly I knew it was over for it.

definitly worth it looks almost new and now basically is new other than cv joint I need to replace motor is 2 yrs old and runs perfect and now a new tranny and transfer will post pics once I get it back its really good lookin truck for its age.
