Aprils 2nd camping trip, 6weeks old.

Once again we went out towards Woods Point. This is state forest so it id dog friendly and this time we had friends coming with their dogs so i needed to go where they were allowed.

Weather was much cooler this time around, we had a little rain but not to much.

Overnight temps dropped to 2.4deg C which made feeding and changing during the night a little less fun!

Nearly everyone out of bed and around the fire for breakfast.

The best change table a little girl could want, on the back of an old Cruiser!

I got a flat tire on the way into camp Thursday night, just out of camp. It was plugged and re inflated the next morning.

The BFG MT KM2's have served us extremely well having traveled all across Australia. They have approx 85-90,000km's on them but sadly i think its time to replace them which is going to hurt the wallet for a little while!

All in all, another great time out with the family and good friends.

Woods Point is a very old gold mining area with a lot of history going well back into the 1800's. We did a little bit of exploring this trip and found and explored some old mine's etc.

Looks like you had a real good campsite there. That is the kind of camping I like. You're not in a campground, so no noisy neighbors in the campsite ten feet away from your tent. Just the rest of your camping buddies.

Looks like April is enjoying the new experiences. That sure brings back the good memories of when our twins were that age, and out camping.

G'day everyone.

Michelle, April and I have just returned from our little 2013 Outback Adventure.

We hit a few snags in the lead up to the trip, discovering April has a mild case of Hip Dysplasia in her left hip joint being the main hurdle.

With many and ongoing doctors appointments etc. we were unable to spend the time away required to visit the area originally planned so at the last minute we came up with an alternative destination and the tough decision (for me, was a no brainer for Michelle!) to leave my old FJ45 at home and we would head out with April in Michelles Landcruiser Prado.

It was a great trip albeit a short one at 10days. We visited the Flinders Ranges area and traveled out as far as Arkaroola which was a real highlight for me and a property i would absolutely like to visit again in the future.

Michelles Prado was completely stock and i was feeling a little uncomfortable taking it into the outback with not even a bull bar so with a couple of weeks to go the stars must have aligned and a mint condition second hand bar appeared on ebay which after speaking with the seller purchased for about 1/3rd the cost of new. New being out of reach financially thus Michelles car has remained stock until now.

Along with the bull bar i added some very heavy duty and rated recovery points to the front of Michelles vehicle also.

I had another set of spotlights the same as whats fitted to my FJ45 (Hella Rallye 4000 Compacts), so once the bull bar was fitted the lights were next followed by an ARB dual battery tray with a redarc dual battery isolator and then to finish it all off in my usual fashion just 2 days before we would head off i ran the wires through the vehicle and fitted some power sockets in the back to run aux camp lights and the fridge etc.

It was a great trip and while i did miss being in the old Landcruiser Michelles Prado was a great substitute.

Making the quick outback trip even more memorable was the fact that 2 weekends prior to heading out with Michelle and April, id somehow managed to sneak in a quick High Country trip with the boys.

With the canopy finally basically finished and a new set of BFG KM2's fitted on the old Landcruiser we hit the road on a Friday after work finding a campsite around midnight and setting up a little shelter with some rope and a tarp to lay the swags under.

With substantial rain the week prior we were disappointed to find there was now snow to be seen heading out there on the Friday night however we woke Saturday morning to find it had started snowing.

It continued to snow for the remainder of the weekend, making for a great weekend out with the guys.

Camping out in the snow is not something many Australian's do and we didnt run into any other people while out in the Alpine National Park for the weekend. Most people think that we are / were crazy but again it was a great weekend and with any luck we might try and get out for another weekend before the snow melts again.

This photo is now my desktop. Hope you don't mind. If you have a high resolution version, please send it to me at Austinlw@princeton.edu. :bounce:

No worries Austin.

The original is a 30+ MB RAW file. I have a higher res Jpeg which is around 6-7MB, would that be of any use to you?

Absolutely. Thanks Travis!

snow camping
the world becomes a very quiet secluded place where one feels like they are the only ones left alive.

some of my best memories are wheeling/camping in the winter. thanks for the memory recall and the pics. enjoying the thread.

OLD UTE

I give you props for traveling that far in an old FJ45. Australia is rough in a new car but in that, thats hard core. WOW good job
