Bit more cage progress. Just needs welding out now for the Engineer to approve on Friday.

Seatbelt mount slugs. High tensile bolt cut down, drilled out, then tapped to suit. There are two of these per side (top/bottom)

Some more tricky notching by brooksy. He cut the first notch by hand, then set up the baileigh notcher (thanks Criddy!) to suit. He then welded a temp jig to the table to make 3 more the same. Worked perfectly! Next was to mirror image the setup and do 4 more.

Welding out this & my cage today. Just got to do roof bars in mine.
Going to be a painfull day though as the drill grabbed yesterday BAD while notching & I have twisted my thumb back, struggled to hold a toothbrush this morning so holding a welder all day is going to suck !!:crybaby:

Few more pics now Brooksy has done most of the welding. (Some pics are of Brooksys 40 which has basically the same cage)

Nice welds! That buggy needs an alignment.

Twisty,, this is an excellent rig. excellent engineering..

more details on the suspension setup please,, please,, please..
I'm really interested in the coilover design.
( it looks to have 70 series radius arms on the front ? how about the rear ? )

I'm really digging the tube-as-gusset design on the cage. Makes for a great look, and unique. Some of those big notches must take a bit of head-scratching to get right!

I never get sick of reading threads that involve the work of Twisty and Brooksy :D

Is it much further along?

I'm finally getting back into this build again. I am trying to have it done for a Classic Landcruiser Club CLAWW run at the end of April 2017.

The reason for the stall of this build was I bought a HJ45 ute as a daily driver. A p/steer and disc brake conversion on it got a little carried away and turned into a 2 year restomod.

After

I've recently sold this so motivation is high to get the BJ42 Middy finished.

To fund painting the HJ45 I sold the fox 2.5 coilovers, 35" krawlers and trailready beadlocks off the BJ42.

So its been sitting on the bumpstops and on a mates set of 38" swampers for the last few years.

So first purchase after selling the HJ45 was some new tyres and wheels from Ryano at Triple R Offroad. Ended up going 37x13.5R17 Gladiator XComp MT's on some 17x9 neg30 Pro Comp Vapour Beadlocks

Front radius arms are custom. They are based on 80 series arms, but a bit longer. The rear is 80 series chassis mounts and the rest is custom. It was originally built with 2.5 coilovers but I am dropping back to 2.0's to gain a little more clearance.

Thanks! We were stoked how it turned out too, and being a bit different to normal. Brooksy definitely has a knack for doing complicated notches.

Nope, but plan to have plenty of progress over the coming months.

Totally awesome !
Thanks!

A few months back I got word that a mate of a mate was about to trade in his 2005 LX470. It had the 2UZ-FE 4.7l V8 and 5 speed A750F auto. I ended up buying it off him for the trade in price. This LX470 was originally meant to be the doner for my FJ45V build, but last week I picked up a rusty UZJ100 with the same motor/auto combo but way less kms on it which I will use for the 45V. Stoked to be running the same combo engine/auto in both cruisers.

After a wash and polish it came up mint. I removed everything needed for the conversion and sold the leftovers for $500 less than I paid for it, WIN!!! The new owner of the LX470 will be fitting a Duramax to it.

Original plan was to notch a small piece of vertical tube off the B and C pillars onto the A to C roof tube to make it look like we used a straight piece of tube vertically. However once Brooksy done the corner bracing first, the more we looked at the B and C upright tubing bending in and not touching the roof tube, the more we liked it, and now its all done, love it!
