I'll throw in recommendations for :
9 Mile - dinner (W. Asheville)
Tupelo Honey - any meal
Biscuit Head - breakfast
Early Girl - breakfast
Pack's Tavern - lunch/dinner
Wicked Weed - Lunch/dinner - even if just for the food
The Admiral - Dinner (W. Asheville) Don't let the outside fool you (or the inside for that matter) this place is great - if you're a ceviche and grilled octopus sort of eater.

While I'm not from the area, I have visited several time and Early Girl is my favorite place for breakfast in Ashville.

I've been here for about 5 years now. I'll agree with 9 Mile (Montford not West) and Biscuit Head. Tupelo is good but is a chain now. Moes is good for bbq but a chain. Luellas is also good for bbq and local. 12 Bones for ribs only. Tod's Tasties is pretty good and in Montford like 9 Mile. City Bakery has good pastries and sandwiches. I've been to Early Girl once, Pack's once, and Wicked Weed once. We tend to stay out of West Asheville and even though I work downtown I rarely go out for food there. Taco Billy in West Asheville has great breakfast tacos. The Cantina in Biltmore Village has excellent food and does 1/2 price Margaritas (including pitchers) on Mondays. Papas and Beer has a few locations and is also great Mexican. Honestly, you could park downtown and walk into most any restaurant and probably get decent food. There's a large food truck scene and even a couple of gourmet donut shops. Probably as much variety in food as there is with breweries. Throw a rock.

I've lived here for 2 & 1/2 years now and have been to many of those already mentioned.
Here's my take:

For breakfast, skip the long line at Early Girl and head to either Homegrown or Biscuit Head. Parking at Homegrown or Biltmore Ave Biscuit Head is always available. West Asheville Biscuit Head has longer lines and less parking.

For lunch, go to White Duck Taco Shop in the River Arts District or Luella's for BBQ. Or just hit up the food trucks at Catawba (South Slope area downtown) or Hi-Wire Big Top (Biltmore Village area). (Food trucks my have odd hours depending on the day).

Dinner, no reservations:
Gan Shan Station
Vinnie's
Bouchon
Asheville Brewing & Pizza on Merrimon (good if you have kids with you - lots of video games in the back)

Dinner w/ reservations:
Curate
Limones
Admiral (does have some non-reservation tables if you're lucky)
Frog's Leap in Waynesville (about 40 minutes West of downtown AVL)

There are tons of places to eat, but those are the ones the wife and I keep going back to.
