So I went to investigate why my dog was whining at the front door this evening and found a cop on the front lawn yelling at me to get on the ground. I complied. He then asked my wife to come outside and get face down in the front yard. We waited there for another 3-4 min until back up arrived. (5 more units and 6-8 more officers, all with guns drawn...good times!)

They placed both of us in cuffs and put us in the back of the cars. The officer I was talking to asked if there was anyone else in the house and I told them that my 2yr old daughter was asleep upstairs. He explained to me that our alarm system had signaled a burglary in progress and we had not answered the calls from the alarm company. That is weird, since we have an alarm system installed from the previous owner but dont have a monitoring service. The number the alarm company tried to reach us on was different than our number as well.

We sat in the backs of the cars till they went in and cleared the house and retrieved our IDs. They uncuffed us and said sorry. The supervisor on the scene gave me the name and number of the monitoring company and they WILL be hearing from me in the morning.

If there is one positive thing to take from this was the Vista Sheriffs Dept had the 1st deputy on site 2min after the call came in. All the other back up arrived 3-4 min later. Hopefully their response will be the same if I should really need them in the future.

Yeah...kinda sucked while it was all going down, especially when the entire neighborhood is outside looking at you.

The alarm company definately needs to get some things straitened out.

Wife did not tell me of any crazy thoughts but I am sure they were there. She was already emotional enough about the incident so I didnt want to ask her what was going thru her mind as she lay there face down in the front yard. I will probably ask later.

When I read the title, I thought the Greenies must have heard a bunch of SC 80ers were installing cherry bombs in the 80s - And thought YOU had one installed already!

Dont worry about the neighbors. Now they know not to efff with you working on the rigs - HOA laws be damn!

Yep...had half the Sheriff's Dept show up and they still couldn't pin anything on me. Don't F with me!

So it turns out..... WRONG HOUSE!! They (alarm co / Sheriff Dept) was off by 1 number. The alarm company said the address of the alarm was 2174 and the Sheriff's say they reported 2173 (mine). Spoke with a supervisor at the Sheriff's dept and they will pull the recording form the call made by the alarm company to see who made the mistake.

So, with all this commotion, did the burglars get away with your neighbor's stuff?

And should we take it all back about how great your LEOs and Dept. are? :D

Don't know yet but they sent a cruiser over this afternoon and found nothing. Nobody was home and they did not go inside the house. I will be on the lookout for him to ask how his house is.

As far as how great they are...I will wait to hear back from the Sheriff's Dept disp supervisor. :meh:

Holy Crap. That is crazy. Hopefully you will be able to look back on it some day and laugh.

well, glad to hear they didn't shoot first and then ask questions...

You were saying that the dog alerted you to their presence. What happened to the dog? Did they give you a chance to restrain the dog or what? I am always afraid that they will harm my dogs if I was ever in a similar situation.

ive always wondered about these alarm systems,,,
when i scrubbed in ortho the doc's would be getting calls all the time from the alarm co or sheriffs dept about "false alarms"...
so i wonder,,,
why is my tax dollars payin for a public servant to respond to these calls,,,
shouldnt the alarm company be renumerating the public for the use of its public servants????

ohh and it makes me wonder,,,

WHOA that is just crazy! Were you wondering at all if it was a PUNK'd show? Waiting for a family member to come out and laugh it up on your behalf??

My folks own a liquor store on the Gardena/Compton border and we would get calls in the middle of the night that the security company hears noises going on inside... half the time it was usually something falling over; case of soda, box.... But the other half was usually somebody inside trying to steal SH!T.... They have busted a hole thru a stucco'd wall or try to climb thru the roof top ventilation... the latter is the better because once the jump down, there is no getting back up! Trapped like a dirty rat!

Anyway, when the Carson Sherriffs patrolled the area those guys were there within 5 minutes, but now that the Compton Sherriffs 'ARE SUPPOSE' to patrol the area... we usually show up and have to wait 30-40 minutes before they do, if at all!!!

Oh well we're currently selling it, so no more late night trips to the HOOD..

Good idea. :D

I was born and raised in Torrance, right next door to Compton.

Luckily, I have a pretty good dog and she went back in the house when I yelled at her to do so. Also, she is a black lab and allowed them to search the house while we were outside in the cars...some watchdog!

Blowmont PD shot and killed a guys rotts when they went to the wrong house and the dogs came after them..............
