Hey Ryan, didn't you say there were grills at the lunch spot you had picked out?

I'm bringing the whole gang and I think we might over power Luke's grill. :D

If the outlook stays the same, looks like we're gonna have some beautiful weather.

Sounds like an interesting trip. No way I can do 27th.

Kira asked if our friend with the hat is going this weekend (it's funny what kids pick up on). I told her no. :frown:

? I might need to pick up some charcoal. Anyone else interested in grillin'?

I just looked up the weather as well. Sounds like a very nice day.

Chuck, you coming? This week should really test the limits of that 60. :grinpimp:

I'm planning grilling. Was thinking I would bring some charcoal or I could bring a small gas grill.

Also planning on camping Saturday night. Maybe sand creek or Phantom Canyon.

I thinking about going around on the highway with the motorhome and camping off hwy 50 some place. Anyone know of a good spot where I can get the camper into? I think if that works out Mike and Pam will drive her jeep and we will be in that for the trail rides.

She's great. Tell I'm sorry we can't make it but we will get together this summer ;)

Sounds like a fun trip, wish I could make it. I'll be up in Aurora and swinging by HRO after the LAX game. Anybody need anything let me know.

If my memory is correct, there are some of the elevated charcoal grills on pedestals like Bear Creek Park at Red Canyon Park, if not i know they have tables and fire pit rings. One small bag of charcoal and some lighter fluid should be enough for the whole group I'd imagine.

As far as camping, Sand Gulch CG and The Banks CG are excellent! They are right at the entrance to a lot of the climbing areas so the lots are well used and you may have neighbors, but there is a pit toilet and you could drive anything with wheels if you come from the south. Just saw on a climbing site that they are pay sites now, they weren't years ago. (Chuck, come up from Canon City and the Sand Gulch/ Banks area will be after the pavement turns to dirt, but before the narrow, twisty, sketchy part.) You could drive north up Shelf road to meet us in Cripple Creek, or wait there till we all come down. The Nat. Geo. map #137 shows tons of ATV and bike trails all around there too. Most of the camping along Phantom Canyon is just primitive pull-off type sites, and Red Canyon Park is a city park so it is closed at night. Sand Gulch is BLM and fairly relaxed. The most uptight anyone will be are the yuppy climbers from Denver/Boulder.

We'll bring the charcoal, a couple of charcoal chimneys, and some lighter fluid (in case the chimneys don't cut it). Looks like we should have some sweet grilling weather  (I'm getting sooo tired of winter weather).

Any other kids coming? My 2 year old and 5 year old would love some company. :)

Are we meeting at the Western at 8:30 as usual? :steer:

My wife and I are going to try bringing the little one out on this trip. She turns two in a couple weeks so we will see how she does. No nap and all day in the car may result in an early departure for us, but I will bring some maps along to share if I need to bail. 8:30 at the woodland park western it is.

Yeah, I had my 2 year old out for about 9 hours last week for the La Salle pass trip. She had fun, but missed her nap.

She was a bit cranky that evening. :zilla:

Despite my best efforts to get "Frank" back together for the trip, I can't get my engine to idle anywhere between 400 and 1300 rpm. Ironically, after replacing the oil pan gasket, pushrod cover gasket, and valve cover gasket, my cruiser is now leaking coolant from thermostat housing  Anyway, it looks like I'm gonna have to check out shelf road another day.

Have a good trip and wish me luck getting my (hopefully soon to be leak free) truck sorted out.

--- !!! Good Times !!! ---

First off, thanks to Ryan for leading the way.

The day started with a brisk morning meeting at the Western where we received the only bad news of the day, our VP wasn't going to be able to join us. He was offered an impromptu photo shoot and couldn't pass up the opportunity. We were saddened by the news, but we all agreed that we're happy that his male modeling career is finally starting to take off.

We then headed to Cripple Creek and down Shelf Road. By this time, the weather was PERFECT:

The Shelf Road has alot of purdy views!

We stopped off at "Sand Gulch Campgrounds" to drop off gear for those who were spending the night.

Then it was off to "Red Canyon Park" for some grillin'!!!

After a shooting the poop, eating a scrumptious meal and some bubble blowing, we headed for Canon City.

We took "Skyline Drive" on the way into the city. Pretty cool road to take if you ever get the chance (sorry, no photos. these are of our trip out of Red Canyon Park).

By the way, we had five rigs with us for the trip. Below, they are ranked by coolness using the ITCS (International Toyota Coolness Scale).

1. FJ40
2. UJZ100
3. 80
4. Tundra
5. Nissan X-terra

(***Personal note: I got my first real look at an X-terra and think it should be ranked much higher, but I think the ITCS may be a bit biased.)
