I smell Mons Venus!
Hi all,

I was wondering about the chassis and suspension differences and details on the dually set-up on the Chinook conversions/campers. Is this the 1 ton, and what exactly does that mean, beefwise? I think the last years were 1977 or 1978, which means solid front axle and 20R motor...how much HP do you gain on that 20r/22r combination motor (20R head on 22R bottom, right?)?

I thought it was very cool, a dually Toyota!

What do you all know?

i know they were 1 ton axles but that's about all i know.

Never offered in a 4wd version... I have seen a few 4wd conversions or custom built campers, but not factory... I know that there were Toyota motorhomes into the early 90s.... and that the 22R had a different cam for mor torque.

The different cam would make sense.

I'm thinking of stripping off the camper, replacing the cab, and building a flatbed on an available chassis, maybe even add a boom and make a little wrecker with a 5000 pound winch.

What do you think, rig of the week potential?

The Chinook was mounted to an RN28 "heavy" cab-chassis, some had a single widened rear 15 inch wheel and some had those Mickey-Mouse bolt-togther dual 14 inch wheels. Neither of which were factory items. They were all 2wd (unless it was some sort of custom conversion such as a Wolverine) and had a double wishbone front suspension with a semi-float live rear axle.
