Hi there

I am looking at a 94 with 175k miles, original owner for 5K. It is in La Canada.

I live in Simi Valley, CA 93063.

I have an appointment Sat 6pm. If anyone want to help me check out the truck with a newbie, I would gladly pay for your gas and buy you dinner.

Looking to join you guys soon. Looked for a FJ60 for 6 months, couldn't find anything, so looking to get a 80.

Whats up Ryan, I may be able to help you out. I'm doing some work on the truck one of the days this weekend and some other stuff going on, but I may be able to trek out there.

PM me the details, working on my head gasket :( but its almost done so if I can finish might be able to make it .

94 with 175k miles, original owner for 5K sounds promising, the maintenance records should tell most of the story.

Read up on all the what to look for threads in the 80 forum.

If you plan on off-roading moderate to serious make sure to get one with the "magic dial" factory lockers. The cost to add them later is not worth if since you can normally find ones with them for around the same price.

I'd hold out for one with locked diff's. It seems as though you plan to use it as a wheeler. And as much as people say lockers aren't necessary, it's well worth waiting for one with them. $5K doesn't sound like a great deal, I've seen locked ones in the for sale section on MUD go for a little more than that. Plus if you buy from MUD, a lot of the PM's will already be done, and you might get a few goodies at a little cost like 33's or a bumper. PM's cost money, so don't overlook them. I've probably put in maybe $2K in PM's already. Hold out for a locked one, have money in hand, and be ready to pounce on a deal. Here's one for $5K in Las Vegas https://forum.ih8mud.com/vehicles-trailers-sale-wanted/212331-1993-fzj-80-locked-$6-000-a.html

Thank yuou so much for your help. I have seen that in Vegas a few tmes, but hte high miles scare me a bit.

That red one looks good, but it's been wheeled some. How hammered it is you wouldn't know til you look.

The first one you're looking hasn't been wheeled, right? That to me has value.

First one I am looking at has never been wheeled. All miles on the 405 and 210.

The red one in Vegas looks fine, but the problem areas seem too much to me.

Here are the problems, according to the ad:

Bad stuff:

- Leaks oil from the oil pump cover, bottom front of the engine. I put in a quart of oil every 700 miles to compensate. Quarter sized drop on the driveway at night.
- Fender flares, running boards, and roof rack removed. I have the fenders and hardware still, passenger rear fender flare damaged.
- S****e and minor body damage on passenger rear quarter panel.
- CD player doesn't work.
- Leather has a tear in the drivers side seat. Showing some wear on all other seats.
- Front and rear bumpers have some damage.

I'm not trying to endorse the above rig or anything, but most of what's listed above is within normal. Oil pump gasket/crank seal can be fixed for $30. You'd eventually remove the roof rack and running boards. Stock stereo and speakers suck ass, so I think it's not an issue. Leather wear is 99% a sure thing on all 80's. Front and rear bumpers can (will?) eventually be replaced.
The scratch (small dent?) seems very minor, but it can be a deal breaker.
I'm a flareless kind of guy, so for me the removal of the flares is a non-issue.
Check out that 80 this weekend, but keep in mind that high gas prices this summer will drop the prices of SUV's, including pristine locked 80's.

Ryan,
Dont know if you got my PM or not. I cant make it out there, but if you stop by west LA first, say 4:30-5, I'll show you what to look for on my truck. That will make your inspection much easier.

Let me know. Brad
