Anybody use M105 trailers? (1 Viewer)

I picked one up awhile back. My 80 has a 3" lift and 33s.

Towed alright empty and with a partial load of firewood. I'm currently preparing to swap it to a 6k drop axle with electric brakes, and matching wheels and tires to the cruiser. I'll also ditch the landing gear for a lighter weight jack.

If I can't get ahold of a M1101 then I'll do exactly as you do. Post information on the axle swap when you do it

Getting closer to my swap. I wound up ordering an 8k 4" drop axle with electric brakes. 8 lug unfortunantly, but with the large difference from spring center to hub face I wanted a stronger axle.

I actually just bought two M1101s! so Ill be selling my M105 and one of the M1101s

How much did you pay for the M1101s? I have the chance to purchase a M1102 but I am trying to settle on what a fair price is.

I've been watching most in auction near me go for around $1300, and on Craigslist/ebay they go for $1800-$2200. The one I'm keeping with canvas top I got for $1100 in auction, And all the others with canvas tops went for around $1800 or more. I hope to get between $1800-2000 for mine honestly, but it does come with a title. Thats around the market price outside of auctions. Supposedly they cost the government $9,000.00 and my trailer has almost no use on it.

Got it rolling, just need to wire lights and brakes up. I'm pretty happy with the finished height and look. It pulls fine empty, though I haven't weighed it yet. Lighter than my boat at least. :p

It does sit a nice height. Does that big honking landing gear still work at that height? Save a lot of weight switching that out.

The M105 series 1-1/2 ton trailer empty weight is about 2,650 lb. It was intended to be pulled by 2-1/2 ton trucks.

The M101 series 3/4 ton trailer empty weight is about 1,340 lb. It was intended to be pulled by 5/4 and 3/4 ton trucks.

I believe both those empty weights include racks, bows and a tarp.

The M105 is way more than what most folks would need.

What I like about the 105 is the volume, you can carry a ton of bulky stuff. The original axle and wheels are extremely heavy, I'm sure I dropped 4-500 pounds there, easily.

Swapping the axle got it down to a nice height. Like you say, eliminated a bunch of weight. Deleting the original dolly jack/wheel will take off more.

I've owned a few M101 and M101A1 3/4 ton trailers. They all pulled nice and I could see around them with factory mirrors, even with a 4Runner.

The M105s were typically low priced leaving some coin for the axle swap.

A nice m101A2(I think, it had the dump feature) popped up after I was committed to this project. It would have been a nicer fit, but I think this will be a decent fit for me. Hell of a lot easier to resell now. I can't see around this with my mirrors. Not unlike pulling my parents bigfoot fiberglass camp trailer.

Just chiming in here. I shied away from most of the 3/4 Military trailers mentioned above. I found a Bantam T3-C. the civilian model of the WW2 Jeep trailer. Weighs just shy of 500 lbs. and can carry about a 1,000 lbs payload. Light enough for my FJ60 to drag around the woods and ready to be modified into the new family camping trailer. Roof top tent is going on the 60, so I’ve got 1,000 lbs to play with as I outfit the T3C.

Love that rig. I recently restored a T3C myself. Love it. Perfect size. Yours looks great.

Used it. I took out a couple leaf springs, but after weighing this I had 6780 lbs of rock. Oops. I know now that once they approach level I'm at my cruisers towing limit.
