Anybody into rebuilding carbs?

You want to read and correctly decipher the date code stamped on it, I can almost see it in your pic...
 
Bravo. Nothing like learning and showing a kid the ropes. My dad loved basket cases for the challenge. Lots easier to fix thing you have taken apart, vs. stuff with missing, damaged parts in a box.

Anyway, big tray of some sort 2x3 feet to dissemble on. Good lighting is a must as is good vision - lighted magnifying glass on a stand or like jewelers goggles (I have both). I would now add a video camera overhead and "film" with sound. Talk about what you are doing for later reassembly. Example 2.5 turns on the mixture screw to gently bottom out.

Welp, I have disassembled the carb but I have ran into a could of issues and hoped I could get some more advice. It seems that someone before me had taken the Carb apart and definitely had little regard for what they were doing. Many of the bras parts have been striped and was very challenging to extract. The secondary jet is so stripped there is no way I can try to extract it with out stepping to something like a easy out. There are multiple Phillips screws that are stripped as well which I can not bring myself to rebuild the carb with.
The question I have is "Is there any one that sells these parts or am I faced with doing the best with what I got or replacing it?
 
There are folks that rebuild carbs. The trick is it must be a good core, if it isn't then you would $ ahead to just get a new carb.

Some folks could ruin an anvil with a rubber mallet. With that thought, how much more can it be ruined or saved. Depends on your skill level and tooling. Drilling out screws can be easy enough - left hand drill can work like an easy out sometimes. An end mill to cut a flat surface makes it easier to spot the center. You can drill out stuff and install a liner/sleave/insert.
 
I could swear that I saw one of our usual 'Mud vendors (was it City Racer?) selling new stainless screws for the airhorn but now I can't find it
 
Home Despot usually has a good assortment of stainless steel metric screws - they cost way more than like ebut or amoron. If you buy 10 you could get a box of 50 or 100 for the same price.

When I buy screw or bolts for a project - I order at least twice as many - that way if I drop one and it get lost or its defective I can still compete the project on time. Plus I have some stock on hand for other projects.

The Carburetor has been quite a process and I have nearly everything ready to finally put it together. While watching Pinheads video I noticed that my fuel outlet plunger was stuck and I had to extract it. There was no spring but the ball was there. I am wondering how this would effect the carb functioning without the spring. I am guessing there is a difference depending on years. My carb is from a 77. Does anyone know what the spring measurements are I can try to locate one if it is needed. I am needing 21257B referencing this schematic.

21257B and Pin are essential for starting. It allows a controlled stream of fuel to squirt into the primary barrel. Without it you will be fighting difficult cold starts.

Measurement for spring:
  • 20mm Length
  • 3mm OD
  • 2.5mm ID
  • 24 coils
  • Coil diameter: .5mm
Mcmaster has some close springs, but exact size needs to be custom made. Pen springs were a 'common' replacement but they are too stiff and need to be cut down to function correctly.

If you need a replacement pin (if its missing), let me know. I had them remanufactured as folks tend to lose them along with the spring.
 
A huge niche for anyone skilled/experienced with Toyota carbs. I know I’m expected to learn for myself but my head is already filled with knowledge No room left.
But seriously, anyone experienced with these could make a killing rebuilding 50 yr old simple carbs. I’d pay $200 in a heartbeat. Just at the point of throwing money at it to get it on the road.
Update..... The issue turned out to be a linkage mis-installation. I had installed one over center and things just weren't jiving. I had a friend go through it and found the problem. I appreciate the help
