Just get one of those tone horns from pepboys or a place like that that has the General Lee horn tone on it. That would be bad ass when you are jumpin over speed bumps and stuff to blare dixie! Oh but it looks like you are from Cali so maybe not. haha!
Sparky - get yerself the General Lee horn and let me know how it works out.

...shouldn't you be in school or something?

Hey -- Cali's the place to be. We got both Advanced Vato Parts and Harbor Freight...besides, even if we didn't have HF, we could always order off the web.

My bad..their ads must be regional...they only list stores through the midwest on there.

There you go!

Making lots of friends are you Stuck?

Yeah hey norcal ive told you this like five thousand times. I get out of school at 12 every day cause i am in a work study school. And my "job" doesn't start till next week so ill be here. Deal with it. Oh and i will get the general lee horn. But thats way down the list. I just gave the suggestion to endless to try out since he wants to do it now. Busted!

I like the stock horn just fine...On my old land rover the PO put ina REALLY LOUD horn....The first time I used it I startled myself and scared the crap out of the woman driving the car that was not yielding as I came through a rotary type intersection

I haven't mounted the air horn yet, so I don't know where I would mount it. Mostly because I am quite certain that such a horn has to be illegial in a state where it is also illegial to drive while being sleepy (Welcome to New Jersey - and you thought the strangest thing about NJ was our "out of the closet" govener).

Anyway, I have an aluminum tank that was used by emphysema patients (bought it at a yard sale) and I also have 12V air pump that was removed from a 1970's Cadillac. This air pump (I believe) is rated continous duty and was used to self level the Caddy's suspension.

So I have all the parts, I just haven't installed anything yet.

If I get motivated, I'll take pics along the way and share with the group.

That pump is not rated for continuous duty but it should work fine for your application. They will fill a tank to 120psi or more but those last few PSI are very hard on those compressors. What PSI will you need for those horns?

I doubt there are regulation on the type of horn you can have...but I dunno. After all I live in a state where until a year ago the passengers could leagally drink beer while on the road, just not the driver! :D

When I lived in Texas, the DRIVER could legally drink beer while driving. It was quite common, in fact almost a requirement, for downtown drivers to stop at the 7-11 on S. Main and buy a single. The clerk would put it in a can-sized paper sack made specifically for beer cans. Sometimes I'd get two cans. :D

There were drive-thru liquor stores in Wyoming. In fact just about all of them were drive-thru.

The best are the drive through liquor stores. Barn..open both ends and DRIVE THROUGH. They put a piece of tape over the opening for the straw and it is considered a sealed container!

But a horn? surely not...unless you were terrorizing people with it...Hmmmm would making someone think they are about to meet their maker be terrorizing?

Junkyard Caddy horns.

$5 for the pair

Very simple to install

Sound is very respectable.

hmm think I am goign to have to try those or the lexus horns until I get OBA, probably be a lot easier to find a Caddy in the yard than a Lexus,

any particuar model I should be looking at or do most 70's and 80's Caddy have the same horn?

I have a set of '02 Tacoma horns. The connectors are identical and all I had to do was lengthen one wire a couple inches because the connector on one of the horns was "clocked" a bit differently than the OEM 80 series horn.

there is a Harbor freight down the st. from my house.

Can't believe I'm repeating this bit of trivia, but years ago when I worked for Lexus we were unhappy with the LS400 horn and needed to change it fast. I grabbed a tape recorder and spent the day going from dealership to dealership of every make I could find and recording car horns. Back at the office the next day, a bunch of us auditioned them and the 1991 BMW 5/7 series horns won hands down. I also like the 70s Cadillac horns option.

...so...does the newer LS400 have the "upgraded" horn? I have a wrecker somewhat near me that likes to hoard Lexus and Toyota vehicles. I think I could get a Lex horn fairly inexpensively.

Do you recall when the upgraded horn would've gone into production?

I got a pair of "Belle" horns on ebay a few years ago. they're awsome :D :D :D :D They are the "snail" style hella horn type, but no idea if they sound the same... Its a nice loud dual tone blast... Very loud, will make people a few cars in front jump..

I agree, WTF was Toyota thinking when they put the civic horns in the 80 series...????
I swear it couldn't be heard over its own engine with the OEM POS, its just dangerous to have a horn be so ineffective....

What is the theory with having a horn anyway that is loud as all get out?
