The top part of the windshield trim almost flew off of my truck Saturday!:meh: I looked at where the windshield attaches expecting to find some clips or something but the previous owner just filled up the entire gap with...I don't know..looks like roofing tar!!

So how is it SUPPOSED to attach?

Any help and pics are appreciated!!

Yup, 85....I looked but didn't see it. I'll check again.

Thanks!

Looked at the diagram and it looks like there is nothing in the channel except where the windshield seals to the frame. Mine has the entire channel filled with something.

Here's a couple of pics. I assume it should NOT look like that...

Actually it should look a bit like that. The windshield is sealed in with sealant (black stuff in pic). There are supposed to be clips embedded in the sealant when the sealant is applied. Those clips hold the trim. It is all shown in the FSM. I don't have mine handy or I would scan a pic but I know it's in there under the body section near the back.

You can still order the clips from Toyota. I replaced my clips and trim not too long ago.

You need to remove the windshield, clean up all that rust, obtain the clips from Toyota and have a professional reinstall the windshield and trim. Just my 2 cents.

Ok, couldn't really tell from the FSM if the whole channel was filled or what looked to be about a 3/8 bead sealing the windshield and then the clips were attached separately. It actually looked like the clips attached to the lip of the windshield where it sealed to the cab. I guess this is all the same sealant.

Thanks for the info and it does look like a pro will be involved....

I know there is a guy on this board that is really good about finding parts like these clips and I've ordered from him before but can't remember his name. Any ideas?

With the amount of rust, I suggest you to pull the windshield and get it taken care of. Besides the only correct way to install the clips for the trim is to pull the glass.
