Any long term owners park outside - how’s the paint holding up? (1 Viewer)

I’d cover it. That keeps the sun out and crud from trees never touch the body. Along with Fluid Film for the bottom you should be golden.
Dont want the attention of a covered car in a public airport parking lot.

I'd proactively clearshield the headlights before any signs of oxidation.

FWIW, my 2008 with nearly 207k miles under its belt is super white and has lived in Texas all of its life. The paint still looks great.

Storage bin. Probably the same cost as a months parking. Uber to the airport.

Besides the sun you have dent, ding and theft/ vandalism issues. If it was a Ford Taurus it wouldn’t matter.

I keep everything inside anyway so I am biased.

I had a beater Ford Escort for the airport and other stuff. I parked it in the dirt cheap lot, probably never locked it. The Escort died so I took the Lexus to the airport garage and overnite I had a $750 dent.

A brand new Cruiser will attract attention to the right/wrong people.

I have an 22 year old 100 in that gold champagne color that has never been in a garage except maybe when parked at an airport. Paint still looks great. Love the glass headlights. Those will never yellow.

Not entirely sure that is true. I have yet to find anyone who things my LC is anything but a big 4Runner, or maybe a Sequoia. Most have never heard of a Land Cruiser.

You are right. It could be a Rav4 with REALLY nice wheels.

It’s weird because if you leave a vehicle outside but drive it everyday it’s not a problem. Let em sit and mice, sun and crap weather age it faster.

My 4runner only runs 1500 miles a year now but stays inside. It’s like stopping time, it runs perfectly.

Does the blizzard pearl have a clear coat?

I highly recommend wrapping your headlights with UV rated PPF. It’s cost effective and will save your headlights. Wish I did it to my LX earlier, mine yellowed and the 13-15 lights are $1200 per due to AFS. I had them restored at my local detailer and he wrapped them to prevent it from recurring, which it would have otherwise.

How's it holding up? Not well...... This has been my paint issue since I got it. Small rock chip causes complete areas of flaking. If you look at the impact marks its like the paint is delaminating. Ive tried to at least slow it down with touch up paint but its time to get the whole hood repainted. Ive heard of flaking paint like this on tundras but I called Toyota corporate and they told me to pack sand. 7th toyota and never experienced anything like this. Only shows on the hood.

Wow. What year is your 200?

I've had paint chips in the same spot of my 2013, but no peeling like that.

Is that blizzard pearl? Are you original owner?? Prior exposure to chemicals etc or neglect??

Super white 040, MY2011. Second owner. No known causes. I didn't get much info from the original owner. I drove over to Aspen to buy it. I gave him a check and he handed me the keys and title. Probably could have asked more questions but it was like 8pm and I still had to drive back to Denver. Its been in my possession for 3 years now and its been an ongoing fight from the beginning.

For context, none of the rough paint you see is caused by rust. That is from build up of the touch up paint I put on there to try and stop the spread. I purposely went past the edge of the flaking paint to try and stop the peeling. Alas, I am calling around to body shops to take it down to bare metal and repaint. Clearly, its a defect in the paint. Like I said above, this is my 7th toyota truck and the only one I've EVER seen doing this.

Did the Carfax show an accident? I wonder if the hood was repainted at some point. That looks worse than any 200 I've ever seen and worse than my 1998 100 did which lived its life outdoors!

Wow, not good. I’ve got a 2010 in Super White. I have the usual small chips / dings on the leading edge of my hood, but NOTHING like that, and zero flaking. Wonder if your hood had been repainted once already...a side note, I’ve been thinking about a matte black wrap on my hood. Protect against additional paint chips and cut down on glare...maybe an option?

Zero accidents. It did spend some time in Hawaii. Unsure if that is related. Maybe?

Thought about it but Ive got other cars with wrapped parts. Paint has to be somewhat good prior to wrap or it'll show right through. Either way, this thing needs to be repainted. I LOVE this truck but damn......

What’s the goop around the top of the headlight lenses?
