So I got tired of looking at my oxidized wheels and figured some paint was in order. I toyed with a few different colors. Painted 1 center cap Graphite, and 1 of them Bronze. I went with Bronze. I did this the easy way. Cleaned the wheels and then wiped down to degrease and dewax. No sanding, but I did chip off some clear that was peeling. Next was 2 coats of Duplicolor Engine Primer, 2 coats of Duplicolor Wheel Bronze, and 2 coats of Duplicolor Wheel Clear. I had just happened to come across new lugs for the whole car. The chrome lugs were not in the plan, but honestly look kinda cool. Now I just have to paint the car! The BFG is the spare, and the M/T ATZs are the 4 regular tires for those that are wondering or paying attention.

Looks good!

Works with the red good!

Now you just need to get some model paint and fill in the sombrero on the caps!

Oh I really like that.
I blacked out my front grill too and am planning to paint the Toyota red. I can't remember, anymore, if that was a short-term or long-term goal. But it's definitely one of those. :meh:

Nice job. Did you paint both the front and the rear of the rims?
I did not. I figured I would just do the outside to begin with. When I finally get around to painting the truck, I may go ahead and strip and powdercoat them. Just wanted to see what it would look like and improve it in the near term. $42 to try out a new color isn't a bad deal.

I love the graphite with the red emblem on yours! I am going to paint the sombrero, just haven't decided on a color yet. I will add to this post when I finally do

Red accents to match your body color would look good against the bronze I think. I did my grille and the front emblem the same way as the wheels, grey and red accents. I just replaced the emblem with a red/gray bhicks TEQ emblem and am absurdly pleased with it. I was waiting in the truck the other day and this guy walked by and kept staring at the emblem like "Whaaa??"

Gotta enjoy the little things...:grinpimp:

I also am glad I used rustoleum or krylon or something(can't recall but I have some left) for the wheels, 'cause I got very deeply stuck this fall and rubbed a good portion of it off in the mud. Fortunately the fix is like six bucks and maybe an hour of work, so no worries!

I'm not much on bling. I like this.:)

I've used the Duplicolor wheel paint in the past to paint wheels but I much prefer the VHT Wheel paint. It sprays much smoother and has a nicer finish and has been more durable in my experience. I have bought it at Autozone. There are pretty much the same color selections available. Black, Silver, Anthracite, Bronze, Red, Blue, White. Ive used the Anthracite and Black and really like how it's worked. I usually spray a few coats of clearcoat as well for a glossy finish.

Hehe. The Tacoma is my daily driver and the photo with the snorkel is from a year or so ago. I've since sold the snorkel and changed the front fenders. I am a long time 80 owner and love them but the Tacoma has been a great vehicle. Lots of trips with it and it continues to impress me.

Oh....I like that Anthracite.... a lot..!! I need to find that paint code.

After getting the living **** beat out of them, ready for more paint!

I have heard some of the haters, but I really like this look. I've followed worse trends in my life.
