What's going on with the build Dude? Is it getting rusty or somethin' LOL!!!!:D

I was sick last weekend and had to fix my benz. I'm talking with Wayne on some stuff and gathering parts.

Been reading this thread and doing some thinking. Thanks......I think. Temptation sux!

I think I had a productive weekend. I found out, that the toyota engine wiring harness has 4 connectors that come through the firewall. 3 of them go into the ECM and are gray and the white one has the starter wire in it. I need to get a pin out from someone that has a FSM to find out what the rest of them do.

I also found out that I will need to use center dump headers. I PM'd Kirk and he said the Hooker Headers 2313HKR - Hooker Super Competition Block Hugger Headers fit the best. I'm going to order a set.

I'm also ditching the stock shifter. I'll need one that can shift 4 froward gears.

:confused::confused:
Stock shifter in the Whale is working like a champ I have every notch from the 700R4...

What year is the Whale? I just bought one from a 92 that has the PRND32L pattern.

Do we all need one that shifts 4 forward gears? IF OD is by the button then the shifting is D-2-L right? Same as toyo? D=3 and OD button = 4?

Kirk

91 It has that pattern......I reckon the later ones don't??
I don't pay much attention to the wife's.

All I know is what I did to the Whale, it moves the 700R4 just like the GM did.......
I removed the arm from the passenger side of the shifter(inside the truck)
removed the shaft it pivots on, ground the flat down on the drivers side that the shifter you grab sits on, to where the arm would fit here, cut a hole in the floorboard and using the factory rod off the tranny out of the whale I lengthened it about 3" and it works like a champ

Kirk you will need to figure out how to wire that into switch. Let us know. :) But when I run my 4l60 through the gears the pattern is PRND321.

Yeah Looks like the later 80 series shifters wont work. can anyone confirm if a early 80 series has a D321?

Thanks
Kirk

I bought a 92 shifter assembly today off the parting out section. If you want a stock shifter with PRND32L, look for a 91/92.

Yea, it does!!! Do a search in this form for LS1 and LS2 and you will find other conversion threads. You will learn from our pain. Wayne and Kirk are doing some great work too! I'm learning a bunch from them.

Just found this thread. Subscribed.

Awesome work! I'm going to have to live vicariously through you until I get the nerve to try the swap myself (or get the nerve to pay someone to do the swap for me).

I love my 80's, but they're in BAD need of V8 power!

Again, great work and thanks EVER so much for the listing of parts, numbers, and sources!

Its only a matter of time...

Sorry about the shifter issue. I didnt think to tell you the truck I did several years ago was a 91 so it already had the right shifter in it. I used a 62 shifter in my 60 and it was correct for a 4speed as well. But ugly though. It looked a lot better shortened a couple of inches.
The build looks great though. We need more pics.

Sorry about the shifter issue.

No worries. It did get me thinking about if it is possible to wire the OD switch to the new tranny to kick it into 3rd. The lokar shifter rod kit you recommended is a sweet setup!

After some rerouting of wires and lines, I got the headers on. I'm starting to think I will need a lift. But I'm going to wait till after I flex it to make that decision.
