I took a picture of the power steering pump last night.
Hopefully someone will recognize where it came from. The PO's claim was it came from a 60.

Definitely not FJ60 or 62 or 80.

99% sure it's an IFS mini-truck steering box.

looks like a match to me....

Any updates on what she looks like now? I think I recognize that pig from my nieghborhood...

Doing a loop through the Rubicon area this weekend.

Well, I have a nice collection of boxes now...
Longfield chrome axles and birfs, Aussie lockers for both axles (FJ62), 4x4labs High steer, 62 spring perches, 6 shooter steering knuckles, and the front is cut and turned.

I would really like to replace the springs, but new stock spec 55 springs are unobtainium. I don't want to lift the truck any further than it is, so I may have to settle for a rebuild.

I will get the front axle degreased this weekend, and get a build party together for reassembly shortly after.

We have about zero chance of making S&T with the pig this year, but I would rather do it right than rush it.

Well, here we are three years later with minimal progress.
I finally have the front (62) axle back built, I will try to attach pics. The rear is being built now, and should be ready next week. I have had to move the pig to my back yard, which is less than ideal as a work spot, but it will drive out under it's own power.
I have been picking up brake parts to finish the axles, then I will have to reconcile the spring locations. Leaving them in place would make me happy, but that may not be possible. I will try to mock that up in the next few weeks.

Here are some pics of the revamped front axle. Longfield axles, Aussie locker, 6 shooter knuckles, Marlin 24mm bearing kit, and custom 1/4" ring gear protection.

3 years with minimal progress? I know a guy that has left his 55 sit without touching it for lack of funds or time or just mad at it. Me.

Well, progress has been made. First a few pics as she sits after a visit to Mudrack.
This got the axles and steering sorted, the power steering correctly mounted, new shock mounts all around, and a surprise. He made art out of my old rear bumper. This is something we discussed, but wasn't on my list. That said, I'm not giving it back.

Once I get the PO's hacked-up exhaust off, she will officially be running.
Then I can find out the tranny slips, radiator leaks, and the chevy is low on compression...

Ok, here is my dilemma. Gary's work on the outboarded springs is perfect, I don't want to change a thing.
Unfortunately the new bumper wants the 4 holes on the side and the 4 holes on the top for each side. Access to the second set of side holes is nonexistent. This bumper is getting a 10k winch, so I want it to have as solid a mount as possible. I am really leary of trimming the new bumper mounts, and i am not welding it on.

Is there an option I am missing here?

That's some nice looking stuff! One idea is to weld a plate inside the frame channel that extends out from the frame, in order to bolt your bumper to. I'd hate to weld the plate in, but I don't see many options. Did the VIN number get covered up with the hanger brace?

I will have to look into the VIN, not really sure. I had not considered extend the frame.. the only issue I see there is that the bumper is going to be waay out front. I am going to have to mock it up and see how it looks.

I had time to make a few changes this week.
1) Removed the tiller. I think it looks nice with an early 80 series wheel (pre airbag)
2) Ditched the old sealed beams for new Hella's with H4 bulbs
3) Thinking about the new color. I want to go blue & white, so here are the 4 blue colors available in a satin finish.

These are the 4 rust-ole-um blue colors that are available in a satin finish at my local Home Labyrinth.
From left to right:
1) Oasis blue satin
2) Wildflower blue satin
3) Sapphire satin
4) Midnight blue satin

The blue on the left is almost a little teal, but its growing on me. The navy blue is almost black, and the darker medium blue will take 3-4 coats to cover.
I think for overall color and coverage, the left most blue is the winner.

I am going to disassemble my worst 4 doors and keep the parts, as I have no room to store them whole.
Is there anyone in the bay area who would want the shells of these old beat doors with welded on hinges? I figure they are scrap, but if someone has been thinking about a 1/2 door project...
