So, on a whim I had to check out a $800 1971 FJ55 on the local CL. Wasn't really looking for another project (and not expecting much) as I have an 80 DD, a 40 trail rig, and a project 40 in the works. But, isn't this how this story always starts?
Checked it out, the guy selling it was selling it for an old lady whose husband had passed away. They owned a farm, and didn't get rid of any of their vehicles when they broke down.
So I'll be the second owner with 63K miles on it. Dropped off on a trailer today, and the interior is great, two small tears on the seats and a tear on the back driver headliner, where the gutter clogged up and rusted through.
Dealer installed AC by Purdy and AC owners guide, still has the coveted yellow tools. 3 on the tree...
So, current plans are to get the rust stopped and new metal in where needed. Change out the weatherstripping so I don't lose the intact windows. Body panels are pretty straight, better than I've seen, but I'm not a Pig expert. Keep the faded paint, get the engine running, and roll with it!
