I'm finally close to lifting my truck. I've been running 33's on stock suspension & factory lockers, with ARB & winch up front, Kaymar w/tire carrier @ rear, Hanna sliders, & IPOR skid plate. I did John Bull like this (with spotting & rock stacking). Here's my question - If I go with OME J's (3" lift), what are the most difficult trails I could handle? I don't like to beat my stuff up, but enjoy some challenge.

I might go to 35's on the next tire purchase, but I'm not yet willing to commit to that. I've had my eye on Slee's 4" kit for a long time, but I can't afford it and find it hard to justify almost double the price for the extra inch of lift.

Short question - Who's on J's, what trails have you run, any problems encountered?

Thanks for your feedback.

With j lift you could probably handle all the trails in SoCal except the hammers and the other hard core trails. With all that weight I'd probably go with slee 4" but 33s wouldn't look appropriate for that height.:D

I don't think 3" to 4" is going to make much of a difference as long as you get springs that will handle a fully armored rig and stay at 3 or 4 inches. Going to a 35" tire will make more of the difference and 35's will fit under either lift. O would go with the cheaper lift so you have extra money for bigger tires.

My next tires will be 35's on my 3" Iron Man lift.

You'll be able to do pretty much the same trails easier with a lot less bumping and dragging. New trails that you cant do now? Maybe the hammers or rubicon. I had the OME heavies (non-J) and 33s for years and went pretty much everywhere.

Thanks for the feedback. One of the trails I had hoped to do when lifted was Doran, at Calico. The entrance is pretty challenging, with several big boulders. Have any of you done Doran w/J's & 33's?

Thanks again.

Been running a 2.5" lift with some spacers for the longest with 35's (deflared) that I swap on for wheelin'. Done fine pretty much everywhere: Rubithon, CruiseMoab, everything in Big Bear, etc.

I've run both Odessa and Doran with 33's, conditions and trails change all the times. The size and width of the 80's makes Calico more interesting then when I take my smaller truck.

I went through much of the same considerations when making my choice, as well as several conversations with both (the ever patient) Christo & Ben at Slee's.

One note: OME states that if you use the J's, you need to also change your bump stops. I've had people tell me you don't need to do this, but most have said you run some risk if you don't. So you might want to factor that into your cost/benefit equation.....
