Tranny prep

Last set and I am calling it a day. It doesn't look so big now. But it still has about 200 moving parts inside. I may pull in the truck tomorrow and tear it down?! Maybe Monday:grinpimp:

It's amazing that you can make that dirty motor new; better than new actually.

I just take my time and Clean everything that can come off and put it back together. I am glad you like it. How about that color scheme?

The color looks very nice; it matches the truck perfectly. Does the tranny get painted?

The red bling is AWESOME!! Love the valve covers!

Are you jealous MrZero? The tranny will get treated just like the rest of the engine. Clean and matched. I bet I get the Mistress back for some love?! Hope the A/C is working good. I still owe you the part #. So in your opinion how is it looking? Familiar? Hey when we get these all done let's do a 4th of July get together!!

Aint -
It's inconceivable that someone would pick on these small details & leave the important ones to chance. Great work!

The guy that did my 5.7/4L60E got tired of the project before he got done, so the big things were great but I had to re-do the small things. Still re-doing small things two years later.

I try to make sure that even the small things are done. I hate turning over the truck when I might think there could be a problem. I want the engine to fit the truck like it was made for it. So everything has to be done before it even gets set. If you have the idea that the Vortec is for you I want to make sure it is everything you could have wanted.

wish I had the cash I would love one of those in mine:frown:

Not to get to personal, but about what does the above service cost out the door?

Zack

Depending on your options and which route you want to go it could run anywhere's from 6k-12k. Seems like a lot but if you factor in HP,gas mileage and dependability it will easily pay for itself. Remeber that is only a guess timate. So everyone wanting a Vortec out there don't get discouraged and think that it is way to much. You can't buy a newer truck or Tahoe for that and you get to keep a beloved truck.

Where else can you get get that much bling for the buck?

just awesome, keep posting, love to see a "looks like it belongs there " swap...

Does anyone want to go the Ramjet 350 route? I have been thinking that would be a better swap, more hp, less complicated FI, brand new etc...?

Next question, iaintscared1969 i have a 1996 vortec 7.4 (454) have you thought about doing this swap? I know the drivetrain will hold up i just have concerns about exaust, and cooling what do you think? I have this engine and i need to transplant it into something, so i thought a fj60 pull rig would be nice.

I have had the idea of putting a Duramax and or the new LS8 when it comes out. I just need time money and a truck to do it. I am still looking for a 60. But the 7.4 would be fun to do. I don't see alot of complications involved. Atleast nothing that couldn't be easily modified. Like the name says," iaintscared":grinpimp: As for the Ram Jet it is a very popular engine and easily installed. Most of the swaps I am doing are people who want the daily driver with the HP gain and be able to meet emissions. So what would everyone out there prefer? RamJet or Vortec? Good question. Me, I prefer anything Chevy:flipoff2:

How do these engines compare weight wise to the original 2F that was in the rig? Would I need to get a new front suspension with a swap like this? I know that the 2F is a rather heavy beast, but I don't know about any of these other motors.

The ramJet would be an easier swap but most of the owners I does these for are wanting the daily driver with HP and be able to pass emissions. I would consider doing a 7.4. I am sure it would be fun. I have considered doing a Duramax or LS8. Just need to find me a good 60 and some time. The 2F is 600 pounds. The Vortec is around 425 pounds. Your suspension will love the Vortec. And to all stay posted I will be posting more today. And thanks for the support and glad you like it so far.

Don't forget, most of us would like better fuel economy along with increased HP. So, the 5.3 Vortec is likely to improve fuel economy while the other options probably will not. There's a compromise of how much HP gain before fuel economy suffers. I'm curious what Iaintscared gets for MPG with his 350/Holley fuel injection set-up?

Depending on how I have the Projection set and the timing, Of which I can adjust from the drivers seat. The truck will get from 8-12 mpg But very rarely is it leaned out for fuel economy:D But the Vortec will out do mine by a mile. 15mpg with faulty o2 sensors is not uncommon.
