Don,
It looks awesome. Nice work. Question for you...do you have any fish eyes or imperfections in your paint job. I have some in mine and they are repainting some parts. Just wondering if I am being anal or not..but never had anything painted before either.

No fish eyes, but I have heard horror stories about them. He did use an epoxy primer (expensive) but worth it in my opinion for the finish. Not sure if that helped or not. Once it's all together, he is getting the truck back to fix any chips or scratches during assembly, I'm sure I will have an oops moment sooner or latter.

SSCR,

Just read through your build and I'm very impressed. Top shelf work. I had a mustard 76, back in the day. I forgot how good it looked new. Thanks for reminding me.

Keep it going!

I have a 76 sitting in my garage. I'm still in the process of picking up parts for her. I've been debating what color to paint it. She was once mustard yellow, but the p.o. Painted her a lighter shade of yellow and painted the interior black (very poorly). This thread just made up my mind. Your rig looks awesome! I'll be copying as much as I can!

Thanks guys, hopefully I'll have the tub on by this weekend, and then I can really start getting stuff together.

I got my carb all cleaned up and back on, also all my radiator hoses with correct oem clamps

Got my hard fuel lines all in and cleaned up. I shot them with some clear engine enamel for protection by suggestion from a forum member here, thanks again.

I cannot locate my factory fuel line clips so I used some I bought from the hardware store which actually do a better job, but since I'm a purist I need to track some factory ones down . Anyone willing to sell some let me know.

Mustard! Mustard!
Thanks Major, let me konow, shouldn't be a big deal to switch them out.

Ran over to see the progress on the body, photo shows the new rockers and rear quarters welded in. My old rockers and quarters were solid but I could see some rust brewing under the orginal paint. I was especially worried about the seams and just wanted to gut it all out to have a totally solid tub with zero rust issues now or in the future. Body guy is doing fantastic work but a little slower than I want, but I would rather have it done right.

Still need to settle on a color, I know that the general consensus is to go with factory Mustard, but I love Dune Beige 416....:hhmm:

Here is a couple more pics of the body work and the other panels/doors that were chemically stripped (very supprised how solid these were). You can also see the OEM fenders I was lucky to score....

Maybe I can help

You're not kidding, I'm going to use this guy for my bikes and my next 40 project. Very happy with it, finally have an all metal tub. Spent most of the night just staring at it. I'm going to need a lot of help from the forum reassembling this thing. Got to find someone with a 77 that is willing to climb all over it and take photos.
I am the original owner of my Federal smog version '77 FJ40. It is all original (except for paint---it was looking awful, they may not rust out here but the sun beats the s*** out of them) everything under the hood is original except battery, radiator core and water pump ---even running original battery cables. All smog equipment in place never had engine apart. Let me know if I can help.

Fuel Line Clamps

Don,

I checked Toyota today for these and they are no longer available. I probably could source you some to keep it all original. Your 40 is looking great.

That's them! Let me see what I can find on the classifieds, thanks Colorado. Thorslc1977, thanks for the offer, I'm sure I will be taking you up on that shortly.

You bet

It would be my pleasure to give back to this forum. I have learned so much here (after owning a vehicle for 36+ years you would think I would know everything about it--NOT ) that it will feel good to give back in some small way. Just give me some lead time as I have a very busy work schedule. Also Ansel Adams I'm not so a little patience with my photography would be appreciated. Oh yeah, that is one sweet ride you are building---- 77's are the best!

Cruiserdan comes through again! Got the correct fuel line brackets on the way with some other oem stuff. Cruiserdan is the man!

For those interested, when I disassembled my air cleaner I took off the rubber bushing brackets off and had them bead blasted and re zinc coated yellow. The rubber was brittle and fell apart.

I found some thick rubber washers at the hardware store and with a little trimming they fit right in and look factory. Here are a couple pics of the cut washers and with it sandwiched by the bushing bracket on the powder coated air cleaner part.

SSCR-

Can you take a photo for me of the passenger side floor pan area where a vent tube I believe comes up behind the fuel tank. Would be near the passengers right rear corner in front of the wheel well. I have to drill that hole since I had so much rust repair to do and need to know the diameter and if there is a grommet on the top and bottom of the hole. Thank you in advance!
Mark

Will do.

Replaced my valve cover gasket and valve cover seal washers with oem and got my air cleaner on.

Not too happy with the lid, this was powder coated by the guy that did all my blasting and is not near the quality of all my other stuff that was done by an old high school buddy. Still have to drop more stuff to be powder coated so this will be getting redone also. Might as well look perfect before I stick one of Shane's repro air cleaner stickers on it.

Also sanded down my shifter arms to bare metal and laid 3 coats of an industrial enamel on them. Felt like a Dexter laying out the plastic for over spray.

Tomorrow I have 4 buddies coming in the morning to set the tub on the chassis! Took some time today laying out the new body bushings so I wasn't scrambling with my buddies holding the tub.
