Well I swore after the last long (ish) road trip immediately post purchase I wouldn't do it again. Well apparently it only took me 18 months or so to disavow that notion. Picked up an 85 with a 350 TBI, h55 and many other mods.

It was located a couple of hours from Valley hybrids so hatched a plan to drive it there and have them upgrade the brakes and look it over.

@orangefj45 and his crew couldn't have been more helpful. They are a stellar crew and worked hard all day to bust out fixes on many found issues in addition to the brake upgrade. They knew I was planning to drive back to Vegas that day so they really went all out cranking the work out.

Took twice as long and many more $$'s than originally anticipated, the joy of old landcruisers!, but it was well worth it. The 60 after all the fixes felt like a completely different vehicle. Tracked straight and true, compliant and functional suspension and the terrain tamer brake and master cylinder upgrade is fantastic. If you want to test out new brakes just drive a couple of hours in california and many a prius randomly changing lanes will give you plenty of opportunities.

More on the truck and plans in later posts but for now let me say that if you are within a days drive of valley hybrids and you need your landcruiser sorted out expertly make the trip.

Sweet rig! I'm intrigued by the terrain tamer brake upgrade. That is slotted/drilled rotors, pads and an 80 series master cylinder? How does it compare to stock brakes in good nick or something like say 100 series brakes?

Great to meet you Andy!

I very much appreciate your faith in what we do and you having do a bunch of work on your cruiser. Also very happy to hear that the results were positive and you made it home without issues!

As for the brake upgrade, we opted for the Terrain Tamer HD drilled and slotted rotors, 4-Runner calipers with the Terrain Tamer HD brake pads and Aisin early 80-series brake master cylinder. We have run this combo a number of times with great results and keep all the parts in stock.

Thanks Georg! I have 4 runner calipers and just did the T100 master "upgrade" and have been underwhelmed performance wise/hate the pedal feel. I'll keep the terrain tamer kit in mind. Your shop is a fantasy land BTW!

Enjoy the new truck and upgrades, erse! Look forward to seeing future updates on your newest ride.

I have not driven a 100 series so can't directly compare to that. However compared to stock 60 set up it is miles better. Feels much more modern than that. Additionally I would say it is better than my 80 also in terms of sheer stopping power if you have to really step on them. Peddle feel is good, firm and predictable very similar to my 80. Definitely a firmer feel on the pedal than the stock 60 set up on my 84.
I'm no expert but I am guessing the "feel" comes mostly from the master upgrade and the rotors and pads really earn their keep when you have to stand on the brakes in an emergency. I would say for anyone with a 60 this is time and money well spent.
Either way for me it is a fantastic leap forward, particularly as this rig has a V8 and tempts me in to driving real highway speeds at times :).

Sweet sweet girl with a calm temperament that puts my two to shame. Which I have told them repeatedly since I returned, they seem unconcerned..

Georg I cannot thank you guys enough. Your presence in the community is an enormous asset and I hope cruiser owners continue to keep you busy for many years to come.

I also forgot to mention the great customer service, these guys scrambled around to find me a phone charger as I had one that only worked in the car. Its a seemingly small problem and solution but I thought it was incredibly helpful and made my day a lot easier to manage.

The black on the truck is a roll on liner, per the PO the guy who built the truck put it on with no prep. underneath. It seems in places to be peeling off clean in tiny chunks with a smooth backing on the underside. It was allegedly some type of Kragen roll on bed liner. Looking for ideas/suggestions for removal. I am hoping as it gets hotter here in Vegas that it starts to come off more easily. Was curious about some type of solvent or chemical to help loosen it up?

The good news is it is not baked on there like regular bed liner, wondering about a small plastic scraper also, would like to keep the damage to the paint underneath to a minimum if that's possible.

You are very lucky here. Scraping it off may not be an option. There some videos where guys have used a heat gun and a plastic scraper.
I wish mine was done this way.....nope I am grinding it off.

I think it was @norsk that had to do the same thing with his when he was building up his truck.

I think heat might be the way to go. I will look for some videos to confirm

I am not surprised to read this! I'm on the East Coast, never been by Valley- but I could tell from our phone conversations- Georg is a "class" dude!

Heat may work but likely you would be better off with a high pressure water sprayer. Without prep, the roll on liners come off easily.

Even in Vegas heat, the monstaliner on my 60 has held up admirably..

Well the :princess: has christened him "groot" because he is big and gnarly. I told her if thats the case we should call him "gronk" after her favorite football player but she was offended and insisted "he isn't ugly!" Ok what do I know Groot it is.

On a more important note I noticed there is a small leak on start up from the gasket around the TBI set up. The TBI has a riser looks like its at the bottom of the riser. Looking through the receipts to try to figure out the right part to look for. A friend suggested starting with the block number to track it down? Anyone have any suggestions on this one?
