To segway off the Android rooting thread, do any of you use an Android compatible deck in your vehicle(s)? The wife and me are putting our music on our GSIIIs and ditching our iPods, so I've been doing some investigating on what options are available at this point, and anyone's experience with them. Good, bad, ugly, etc.

The Pioneer Appradio looks like a promising setup, and might be the route I go with my 62 to change out the Clarion I already have. Really though it just looks like a stereo that uses Android as an OS rather than a stereo devoted to being used with an Android device.

did you check the compatible device list .?

check reviews ..

honestly if where me .. ( been there ) I will just play BT my music to my headunit from my phone.

I'm pretty much leaning towards going the BT route for audio, in which case a single DIN media deck would be ideal for our sedan since I plan to do up an interchangeable phone/tablet mount that would hold whatever device right in front of where the deck sits. Same with my 62 when I eventually change out my Clarion deck. The screens of our SIIIs and available tablets are plenty big for good navigation setups, music/video apps and OBDII-based vehicle monitoring (for the sedan).

You might want to check out some of the Kenwood units also:

I run an older Kenwood in my truck, media deck only (no c.d. player built in). I use an iPod, but the one I linked to seems to get decent reviews, and I have been very happy with the flexibility of the EQ/crossover section and sound quality of the Kenwood units from the last few years.

Dude get the JVC X50BT if you can still find it our the newest version the X250BT.
I just installed one in BeBe and love the thing, it is compatible with iPhone, Android, and Blackberry. Android does have a special control app available for it as well.
Comes with 4 pre-outs, 2xUSB (one will be used for BT adapter but found you can install a small hub and it will function just fine), and hands-free mic kit. Tons of other customizations and what-not on it. Seriously and awesome little deck.

I also run BT audio from my android to an alpine nav head unit. Works very well, good interface and good sound. I looked at the pioneer appradio 2 for android but the reviews were pretty bad. Looks good on paper but I'll wait until they refine it more.

Androids....

Spook -
Excellent timing, just ordered an Alpine "mechless" head unit ICS-X7HD w/ 7" screen. I have a Galaxy SIII as well and want better integration. Replacing an Alpine BT radio that wasn't very easy to use for phone or music. Also adding rear view camera. See http://www.alpine-usa.com/product/view/ics-x7hd. Street price around $550.

You load an Android app (Mirrorlink at Google Play) on your phone and the head unit then dupes the SIII screen for most functions (phone, nav, etc.) via USB cable. Pandora streams over the BT connection.

I am traveling so it won't go in for a month or so.

Good luck!
