So recently I dumped out of Blackberry which I've had for the last 4 years and got a Verizon Galaxy Nexus. I'm really digging the whole Android thing and it is so much more functional than what I'm used to. That being said, I'm looking to mount it up high on my dash or possibly suctioned to the windshield similar to my Garmin Nuvi GPS, which now sits in the lower left.

I would like some recommendation on decent mounts for this thing. I'm planning on a trip out west this spring and I'd like to be able to use the phone to help me along the way. The phone itself is fairly large and I'd like it to be mounted landscape.

I got the sprint evo n use the RAM mount system..
I got it attached to the A pillar but could use a windshield suction cup if needed..
Best mount ever..
Android rocks too...

This is what I have...

I found a local RAM dealer about 20 minutes away from me. I'm going to see what he has in stock and possibly come up with a solution for both the GPS and the phone. Too hard to tell what's going to work well online.

Sweet. Thanks for that.
Turns out the place close by is not a brick and mortar shop. Internet orders only, but a good return policy. I sat in my truck a while trying to figure out how this stuff should go.

i have a ram mount like the one above mounted next to the gear selector. it's nice, but i think i'm going to replace it with the x-grip holder. currently, it's kind of a pain to get the phone in and out, but the phone definitely isn't going anywhere!

Adrox, I had the same issue at first...
then I went with just the one finger grip shown in the pic and plastic base ( its upside down on the pic, as Im too lazy to fix it) It still grips the phone nice and tight and it is VERY easy to put and take the phone on the mount.
You really dont need all the finger grips these thing comes with...
I think I would use them all if the phone was to go on a motorcycle handlebar.

Yea I need to find one of these mounts for my HTC incredible 2 (it looks like it might work in the one pictured at post 5 above. ON the side of the hone I just have a rocker for volume..no other physical switches on the side.

I know one thing....suction cup mounts are out.... tired of the @#$% coming loose, espically with my GPS and with my radar detector. I found one of those sand bag / weight type deals for the GPS and a similar one for my radar dector in the pickup.

thanks for the tip - i will definitely try some other configurations! i was just concerned about offroad travel so i put all the fingers on it. :)

I received delivery of my RAM mount order a few days ago. This stuff is the Land Cruiser of mounting solutions.

The Garmin mount for my Nuvi is a ridiculous fit using the OEM Garmin base adapter. All included hardware is an exact fit and every nut is a nylock nut.

The low profile suction cup mount I bought is 30% larger than the OEM Garmin cup and has a deep twistlock suction clamp. I could probably lift the truck from the windshield with this. Incredibly stable and bulletproof design.

Still working on the phone solution. I bought the Finger Mount holder which comes with hundreds of possible combinations to make any device fit. Once you figure out their system and build it to your spec, it's pretty amazing.

This may be my new favorite company.

RAM really does make quality stuff. We use all their gear for the ambulances around here and they make a sweet dock for the Toughbook h2 tablets.

I used to run a Garmin GPS and almost lost it in the freeway (window was down) when it came off from the cheap mount I had bought at best buy... I went to a RAM system after that little scare and have never looked back.... The suction cups are bomb proof and although I dont use it any more, it never came off loose... Great system indeed.

what are the mount screws at the A pillar threaded into?

Elbert, I pull the liner up and drill a couple of holes, installed some nutsert and Bingo !! Nutserts rock !!!

Why not use the Galaxy Nexus car dock? The Nexus line is awsome b/c they incorporate great docking features:

1.Power is run to the dock (not the phone) - This is great if you use your phone for NAV as all you have to do is pop it in and out. No more inserting phone, fumbling for the power cord and then plugging it in. Same can be said for taking the phone out of it's dock.

2. Line out (Audio) is incorporated into the dock - If you want to run a hard audio connection to Aux-in on your HU, you can go dock-to-HU and never have to touch it again. Same principle as in #1. Snap the phone in it's dock and it automatically links to power and Audio-out using connection pins visible on the body of the phone.

Docking abilities such as this are the reason I kept my Nexus One for over a year.

OK...good info... I'm debating on getting roof fixed and installing one of the SOR headlinners this summer.

RAM also makes a water proof cell phone mount. I'm getting one for my dirt bike for GPS and speedo capability.

Unfortunately I only have photos of my Tacoma setup. Here is what I am using. I have a RAM mount for my Garmin 60cs GPS unit and love it. It is rock solid. As for my phone/zune I use a lobstermount shrip pod attached to a bracketron bracket.

The RAM X-Grip holder is awesome. And because it's universal you won't have to change mounts the next time you upgrade your phone. Don't know if I would trust it on my mtn bike but in the vehicle it's rock solid. I use an Otter Box Commuter on my 4S and the X-Grip could care less what's wrapped around the device. I have a 2nd one on order for the Bob jogger.

Why not use the Galaxy Nexus car dock?

Because it's not compatible with my phone?
"WARNING: Product NOT compatible with VERIZON edition ’Galaxy NEXUS i515."

Samsung doesn't have a decent car mount solution. I have been looking since I got my phone 2 months ago.

However I have come up with a very nice solution using the RAM X-Grip, which is totally a great idea BTW. Brilliant design. I LOVE this company.
I ordered some specialty cables that just arrived and I should have it all completed and mounted today. I'll snap some pics when it's tested.
