AMSOIL remote oil filter mount - good idea?

Interesting stuff .. just thinking it will be a option to place a engine oil cooler and in the process also more filtering capabilities ..

You should send your oil out to be analyzed just to see what's going on with your oil. Bob Is The Oil Guy

I'll have to think that one over. I am kind of thinking of running some UOAs on the next round of oil I run, to see how far I can safely push things interval-wise. Maybe I'll send these in too for poop and chuckles. Just started poking around GITOG last week, still have lots to learn.....

Ha doc.......without going back and looking did you have a psi increase......I can only assume you do cause the remote(oil filters) would be further away from the motor?

Can't remember if I noticed anything right after the install, but I only have the stock gauge, and with it being winter and all, the pressure starts off a touch low till it warms up anyway. In general, it seems to sit about the same as before. Have you decided to go this route?

What weight/brand oil are you using?

I had been running Mobil 1 10W30 (reg, not EP). Put in ~ 6.5 litres of Rotella T SB 0W30 last night (short term to deal with cold temps right now, and the lack of electricity for a block heater at River Shiver next weekend).

I have started a thread in BITOG to seek advice on what to run long term. I am thinking Rotella full syn 0W40, or switching seasonally between that and Rotella conventional 15W40........

Look's like a nice set up.

I have been thinking about one for a couple of years now.

Definitely not cheap, but that aside I am liking it so far (especially after comparing the 2 samples).

hows the setup so far RD? oil samples still looking alive and well with no detragration?
It would seem though the setup pays for itself in one year if one was to drive say 12k plus miles? I know when i did a oil change I bought the 15-40 mobile one and abought 2 gallons worth and a fram extended guard filter that costs 8.50 it was 60 bucks or so to change the oil. you figure change it 4x/year? would pay itself with no oil chnages with the dual fitler amsoil setup.

The filter setup has been sitting idle since Oct, when I swapped in my new engine. It will likely go back on soon now that the engine is broken in, although I'll have to relocate it since I have all the bits I need to do a dual battery/alternator setup now.

I got in the habit of running about 10 000 km (6000 mi) on a batch of conventional after sending a sample to Blackstone at 7500 km and it coming back good as far as contamination, water and TBN. Lately I've been running Caterpillar DEO oil since it still has lots of ZDDP in it. I run a synthetic or blend in the winter (bloody cold here) but I don't bother during the warmer months.
