When attempting to remove the trans control rod I sheered off the stud with the second nut that holds it on. Can’t seem to find a replacement part. I’m scared to attempt to get the second nut off until I pull the engine. Anybody got any ideas on what I should do for long term fix?

Whats the end goal here, engine & transmission removal? If so, there's probably no need to remove that lever. You'll just have to be extra careful it doesn't catch on anything in the removal process.

But when it's time for the lever to come off, soaking in penetrating oil (PB Blaster, etc) and possibly heat will be needed to remove that retaining nut. Heat will damage the seal, so be advised.

If you don't ever need to remove the lever, it looks seized on there enough that a locking nut isn't really going to add any additional security.

From the looks of it, you should be soaking the exhaust fasteners already... I'd expect some similar challenges there too.

I wish you luck. I grew up in the rust belt and every undercarriage looked like that or worse... definitely have some experience with rusty and broken hardware. not all that fun and I don't miss it a bit.

The end goal is taking transmission and engine out as a unit. I think I will probably just leave it alone. Its certainly not coming off of there without some convincing.

I wish I had just started by removing the connection above it. This is how I ended up disconnecting the shift linkage in the end.

I ended the day today soaking all the bolts I could with pb blaster so fingers crossed.

I was told this rig was sold in Alaska and then after was owned by a surfer who took it to the beach anlmost everyday. Just about the worst combo I could think of for rust 😢
