Hi Cruiser Heads!
I need to replace the alternator in my 91 80 series, part 27060-61091. Does anyone have a good vendor for a reman Denso, or a good aftermarket part replacement?
Thanks!

There are a few options to consider, since that part was discontinued about 15 years ago.
VintageTeqParts.com Home Page – VintageTEqParts.com - https://vintageteqparts.com/ sells a direct replacement. 80 amp/external fan.

The 90 amp version with internal fan that came with certain 1992 FJ80s can be retrofit using a different bracket. This is what most parts stores will sell you when you ask for an alternator for a 91. It is NOT a direct replacement. I think it might still be available from Toyota.

1988-92 Toyota Landcruiser Alternator 14461 - http://www.invasionautoproducts.com/88toal14.html sells a direct replacement, but it is an unknown brand.
***CORRECTION*** they claim it is a rebuilt DENSO unit.

You can have your existing alternator rebuilt by a local alternator/electric motor shop. It is not something that the average mechanic can do.

I thought about rebuilding it, but there is a good bit of extra stuff I would need, and I want my Cruiser back to available straight away.
I thought about going to the next higher amperage, but I'm not running extra amps for a stereo or anything. It also seems when you start screwing with things that aren't factory spec while everything else still is, that's when problems start.

What is the component right above the alternator (it looks like the part number is 17610-61050)? It looks like it’s connected to vacuum lines and the EGR.

Air injection pump, commonly called smog pump. It's part of the emissions system. It's purpose is to reduce HC and CO under certain conditions.
The AI system is only operational under very specific conditions. I removed mine and put a York compressor in its place uncounted years ago. Made no discernable difference and had no issue passing NJ smog inspections.

The AI system is explained in detail starting on page EC-16 of the FSM, which you should have along with the EWD. Both can be downloaded from the resources section or from the link in my signature.
