The alternator finally failed on me a couple of days ago on my 2000 LC. I'm considering a 2003+ 130 amp upgrade, just in case I ever add some extra lights. I'm trying to put together a pigtail so I don't have to cut the factory wires. I found the four way connector for the new alternator but I can't find a three-way to plug the original connector into.

Does anyone have a part number for a three-way connector I can use to plug the original connector into?

I tried as well but couldn't find it. You don't need to cut the factory wiring though. You just need to push the individual pins out and insert those into new connector. One position will not be filled though.

Counterpoint: Been running a 100A alternator for years without issue. 850w of sound system amps, winch (yeah I use it ;)), dual Odysseys , Rigid 15k lumen LED bar, a 200a LiFePO4 battery in the trailer (formerly had 2 G31 Lifeline's in the KK trailer).

I guess more can be better but ...

I doubt I will ever get to the point where I need more than 100 amps, considering what all you are running off your's.

I thought about the extra pin, I saw some diagrams that said it is a computer pin? Did that cause you any problems with codes or warning lights?

I guess I can eliminate this issue by going way overkill and buy a dc power alternator.;)

Bringing this one back up from the depths... where are you guys sourcing the pigtail connectors? My local stores look at me like I’m crazy. Am I missing the correct term?

Been asking for a repair plug for the alternator. I’m assuming the 130amp model is the square 4 pin connector with the homework I’ve done.

Where are you guys buying these?

I’m upgrading my ‘99 with an ‘03 Denso unit.

But that is just the connector. You will need to "de-pin" your old terminals. The Toyota Electrical Connector Manual has info on how to de-pin.

If you should break the terminals, you'll need the OE terminals (3):

You're a legend! thanks @hoser

Did you install the new alternator. Does an 03 alternator bolts right in. Did you figure out what 3 spots to use on the new 4 pin connector. The alternator on my 2000 is cracked and is starting to lock up. A higher output alternator sounds like a good idea since I have aux lights and a winch. Thanks.
