Are those pins on the 4-pin
removable? I.e. could you just replace them with conventional terminal pins crimped to wires?

No, they aren’t. They’re molded into the plastic. I tried to find a more elegant solution and wasn’t successful.

I wonder if anyone else has found a solution for a traditional plug to replace this solder on one?
