Aftermarket Brake Experiences?

I just went through this for the 2007 I recently picked up and I have new OEM pads and rotors on the way talking advantage of the Black Friday sale. It was cheaper to stick with OEM actually so the only reason to have gone powerstop was to upgrade but this going to be a lightly used cruiser for my mom there was really no point in that and I'm not entirely sure it would have been an upgrade anyway. From what I researched here I saw multiple people saying they did not have good longevity experiences with the power stops, while these oem lasted 220k. I don't need my mom to ride around on iffy brakes just to get a little more stopping power.

Now on the flip side I have a full powerstop z36 kit sitting here for my GX460 ready to get slapped on as they received rave reviews for the GX and the GX does seem a little underpowered on braking, I don't know if I would say that for LC. Hopefully I didn't make a mistake by picking these up for the GX, had the cost been equal I probably would have stayed OEM for the GX as well.

I've had DBAs on my rig now for almost 15 years. They work great.

I made the dumb decision to go with Akebono ACT pads just this week. It reaffirmed in my head to never Fing buy aftermarket again. Doesnt fit in the calipers, had to grind them.

I had he cryo treated powerstops in my 4runner, they lasted 20k miles before they started warping, and couldnt be cut cause of the drillng and slotting.

I only run Akebono pads on my 100-series with no issues..

My experience with Akebono:
Front AKEBONO ACT772 pads / BECK-ARNLEY 0832794 rotors. I got almost 40,000 miles out of them, but the pads were completely worn and pulsing on the rotors.
Rear AKEBONO ACT773 pads worn to 1mm in 23,900 miles. (I only did a pad slap, so maybe that contributed to the quick wear).

I have gone to Powerstop rotors (JBR735/6) and pads (Z36). Quite happy with them as breaking seems better, and they are wearing much slower (so far 21,000 miles on the front and 17,000 on the rear and lots of pad remaining).

I personally am not a fan of drilled and slotted rotors for a non performance vehicle. They can potentially eat up pads quicker. I have no plans on taking my LX to the track anytime soon.

Some Toyota OEM brake pads are made by Akebono, some are not. The ones that are might still not be the same brake pads as the Toyota ones since Toyota has specifications that its parts manufactors need to meet.

Examples: A Denso spark plug coil is the same as a Toyota spark plug coil made by Denso with the exception of the labeling. On the other hand a KYB strut is not the same as the Toyota strut made by KYB, different specifications.

I went with a full Powerstop Z36 kit (front/rear, rotors/pads) back in 2020 after burning through a set of OEM pads in less than 30k miles. Is the braking better? No. Is it just as good as it was with OEM? Yes. The best thing about Powerstop is the coating on the rotors, they don't rust or corrode at all.

i have the powerstop slotted / cross drilled w/ Akebono pads. they're ok. Just like everything else, OEM is best, but it just depends on how much you want to spend

Are the power stops cheaper, what are they going for? Here is my invoice for the OEM's I just picked up locally, ended up around $400 with the 25% off. Kinda wish I had done the same for my GX before I bought the powerstop kit, I guess we'll see...

Where did you get free shipping? Some places charge a lot for the rotors...

Nevermind - found an outstanding deal at local dealer (Serra Toyota). They have a 25% promo code AND free shipping right now - "25OFFJAN26" - if anyone else needs a great deal on OEM parts right now. Got full set of rotors and pads for $370 to my door!

PowerStop has a "D" rating on BBB and 3.7 stars on Google. Their customer and warranty service is atrocious. I had one of their SS brake lines spring a leak on my GX. Their warranty staff jerked me around for several months before finally refusing to honor their warranty. I had to file a BBB complaint to get them to give me a refund.

I don't have a 100, but on my GX I now have all OEM Toyota rotors, hoses, and calipers, but run EBC green pads. The braking power will just about throw you through the windshield. And, Toyota brake components won't do this when you are pulling a camper down twisty, two-lane, hilly roads:
