So, I just upgraded from a 2005 4Runner V8 and am the proud owner of a 2013 LX570. The 20" wheels and tires are ok for a mall cruiser, but I do get a bit of snow during the winter. Would hate to be stuck on the highway during commutes. Any recommendations on a more versatile tire? I had Revos on my 4runner, but tires in the 20 range are limited.

The LX570 comes with 285/50 on 20" wheels. If I went a size up there's the BFG AT at 285/55/20. I'd hate to get a spare set of wheels to swap them every so often. Takes up way too much garage space.

if I get narrower tires, 275/55/20, then it opens up the possiblity of cheaper tires, the Revo2, BFG Rugged Terrain, Michelin LTX

I bought some another set of 18 inch wheels and mounted Blizzacks with cloned sensors. They work exceedingly well. You might explore other brands but I do suggest true ice/snow tires all around. I will remount the stock all season combo at the end of March or so. Tundra wheels work just fine on the LC and I suspect they would on the LX as well. Lots of used wheels out there.

Edit: Now I notice your aversion to a second set of wheels. I can understand that. I am not a fan of 20 inch wheels frankly. The default 20s soured me on the LX a bit. And the Lexus dealer is less convenient for me. It is a fine vehicle as you already know. A local tire shop I use for track wheels/tires will store the off season wheels and that might be an option for you.

^hmm,

only if I have tire place did that. I'll have to check. That would make life so much easier. I just passed on a set of Tundra Rock Warrior wheels/tires because I didn't have storage space.

Congrats on the nice ride.. I have had extensive conversations with my brother on this issue with his LX570.. Just keep in mind if you go with an AT tire they will ride stiffer and a bit louder and with the limited sidewall it may ride really bumpy, the bfg's in my opinion (I have them on my fj cruiser) are a great tire but don't ride very well for a luxury car and the damn things never balance. If your more for getting in the dirt and rocks it's the way to go. Are you looking to do that?

If it's just for highway driving and really mellow dirt roads and your main concern is snow and ice you can never go wrong with michelin m/s2 tires. For an all season they rock in snow, just look at all the sipes in the tire.

There is a guy selling his 18 inch 2014 land cruiser rims 5forfighting

I have a 2011 LX and had the same problem. I went with the Toyo at II's in either 275/55/20 or 275/60/20 and they are perfect. They are still a p metric tire (not an LT like most at's and mt's). They fit great. The load rating is just slightly higher than stock. Exact same ride quality and quiet on the highway. Plus pretty good in snow and mud.

I just went out and checked. 275/60/20 with a 114T load and speed rating. Stock is 113 or 111, I can't remember. I have no rubbing. So far about 15,000 miles on them and holding up great. Fits in the spare tire well also.

have a look at Toyo AT II's (or any other) - LT295/55R20 or you can go up to 305/50R20 as i have

If you're going to stick with a p-metric, might as well stick with the stock setup which are plenty capable.

They just look really... pedestrian.

I love my AT2s albeit these are E-rated and 13" wide. :D

Wow those look beefy

But they aren't in 20". Just curious, do you see any advantage of an LT tire over a p metric? I feel like the traction of our tires should be nearly identical, your will be slightly better since your tires are wider, but my 114 load rating exceeds the GVWR of the LX. Also, the p metric tires are significantly lighter.

If you are somewhere with sharp rocks though, I can see the e rating to prevent sidewall ripping.

not having a traction contest w/ anyone anytime soon i can't address your question - apologies.

and so my truck would look very diff if my mo was all about pure function. my LC is a pleasure vehicle and i wanted to make it look visually great while not giving up too much efficiency and ride quality. i took a hit on mpg, but my truck rides better than stock even with stiff and heavy all terrain tires. all this comes at a cost.

consumerism to me is at its core irrational as is human nature.

These replacement tires would be for mainly street use and occasional snow driving, driving to a camp, etc. For hard core off-roading, I'd get the 5th gen 4runner or a Jeep. That's coming next. I have to make strategic purchases regarding my cars. Upgraded the 4runner for a LX, but I'll get another 4runner soon.

Can I really go 305 w/o issues?

what do the 275/60R20 Toyo II look like on the LX? do you have pics? the thicker sidewall may help with curbs, rocks, etc.

again, i don't see how the stock wheels are holding you back for your use case. the LC can handle both the hardcore stuff and mall crawl duties with aplomb. the inability to lift the ahc puts a real damper on things.

i would bet that the 305s will require a trim job on your nice lexus.

Well, I got the crap Dunlop grantreks. The other oem tire for the lx is the Michelin lattitude and not the M/S2. Thus past snow storm left me wanting a better tire. I'm pretty sure I don't want to go with a 305 tire.

I've narrowed it down to the M/S2 for the stock 20 inch wheels. The come in 275/60/20

I think you will like the michelin m/s2. I have the stock michelin latitudes with 22,000 miles, not that great in snow and they are almost gone!!! I had michelin m/s2 on my previous 100 series in Salt Lake City. I braved park city snow storms, little and big cottonwood canyons, Jackson hole, Colorado storms, have tread through a snow storm with snow up to my fog lights never got stuck ever!!! Oh and I got 65,000 miles out of them. You'll like em. Ride smooth and with green x technology help get the best possible mpg.

Take pictures when you get your tires my brother will want to see and hear about your thoughts
