I have a Slash VXL 4X4. It's a blast. Put a 3 cell LiPo battery and the **** thing will literally do 60+MPH. It's completley uncontrollable at that speed though. If I could go do it over again, I would have got a Team Associated. .

I have the same. It does have a tendency to flip over with 3S. I use 3S lipo 5200mAH. I upgraded to a low CG roller chasis and improved marginally. I have a Castle Creation combo and it did 74mph with upgraded pinion gear and spur gear. I am still trying to play with it and find the perfect gearing to totally eliminate wheelies on rapid acceleration. And with upgrades on suspension, it kind of improved handling.

And YES on Team Associated. Most of my RC buddies run 'em and they're great, but price wise, not for me:mad::mad:...

My son is 8. He has an AXIAL AX10 Scorpion crawler (his first machine at age 6), an AXIAL Wraith (his second machine at age 7) and for Christmas Santa brought him an AXIAL EXO Terra buggy. My 6 y/o daughter has an SCX10 Trail Honcho. We run our RC crawlers on the mountain bike trails at the local park. My son runs his EXO on a local short track and keeps up very well with the adults and their short course trucks.

The crawlers are great because they will literally run for hours between charges. We've done 2 miles of single track MTB trails in one outing on a single charge. It's fun for the kids and good exercise too.

If y'all are looking for a good Tech site for RC cars/trucks etc......Go to RCTech. Great website and very helpful!!!

My problem with the truck is the fact that I couldn't upgrade anything I really wanted to because I was to busy replacing whatever broke. Granted, I used it alot to bash around, but even time I took to the track...and nobody else around, it still would break!

4X4 isn't as important I thought it would be. It would be important in a crawler, but over 30MPH and not doing anything competetive, 4X4 is over rated. It's probably as over rated as nitro was electric started taking over. 4X4 just puts in the "upper" racing class at most R/C clubs/tracks.

You're gonna go through a lot of spur and pinion gears on the 4x4. The good thing is, they're only under $4. And don't think of upgrading to a metal spur gear, it's just going to break your clutch and pinion more often. Some moving parts were made out of plastic for a reason, somethings gotta give.. Otherwise, if all aluminum and metal, you'd have a lot of bent parts...

Some like aluminum bumpers, but personally, I don't. When you crash on a plastic bumper, it just bounces back, not the metal and aluminum ones... you'd buy another one unless you want a bent bumper...

Regardless, they're still fun... :D

I've been chasing the replace a plastic part with aluminum only to have the next weak link break race ever since I bought the friggin thing! you are right, they are all fun every time!

Carnage report so far (for two Slash 2wds):

3 rear hubs
1 rear arm
1 front arm
1 spur gear
1 side bumper
All rear tires are about bald

99% of our driving is in the street. 100% of our driving could be considered abusive. Broken parts have been 50/50 due to crashing into curbs or high speed crashes into the other car. If we were able to be responsible, they probably wouldn't break.

Luckily the parts are pretty cheap. I've started replacing the parts with RPM plastic parts if the local shop has them in stock. Much beefier in the high stress areas. They cost a little more than stock parts, but are still pretty cheap. They are supposed to be bulletproof and have a no questions asked warranty. They are A LOT less $$$ than the aluminum. After seeing how much better they are than stock, I've started preventively buying parts for the other car when something breaks.

Still having a blast with them! I'm ready to step up to the brushless motor!

4x4 are terrible on pavement/street.. No wonder you broke almost all of your suspension :D

You'll feel a big difference in handling when you upgrade your motor..

looks like you're having a blast!

One thing to keep on mind is that when the vehicle is airborne you shouldn't be full throttle when it lands. Try matching tire speed to vehicle speed just like full size race cars. It can be tricky. Better that the vehicle lands off throttle than full throttle. Another thing is all these various cars have slipper clutches in them. It's the spring loaded nut on the big gear (can't remember if it's the spur or pinion). Backing the nut off some will soften the blow to the differential upon landing while on the throttle. But there are trade offs, and it has been awhile for me, so read up on it why dontcha.
Yes, RPM products are the best IMHO, especially invaluable are the A arms.

My car has the RPM A-arms F&R, and the RPM hubs. I put finally put them to the test this past weekend, and they passed with flying colors. I'm impressed.

I am amazed at the abuse these things take.
