You can get a pair of Hella 500s for under $100. I actually got three for about $75 in a couple of ebay auctions from the same vendor. They are road-legal with the stock bulbs and put out plenty of light for as fast as you're ever going to be driving your rig.

I never drill into any Toyota metal. I made a light bar from aluminum tube that I mounted between the rear-most tow hook bolts. Mine are switched by a relay which is switched by a wire that is simply jammed into one of the connectors to the high beams, so none of the wiriring is permanent. It has been flawless for 5 years.

I also replaced the headlamps with 7" Hella e-code lamps. They make a huge difference.

Get a free program called "GIMP" to edit your pictures. I flipped, cropped, used auto-levels and changed the color balance a little to offset the effect of the fluorescent lights.

Thanks I appreciate all the input and thanks for flipping my picture upright. My FJ is a bit of a work in progress I just recently put the new tires on it and old man emu springs love driving it but just want some more light haha

Bosch 1-305-603-012 with 90/100W H4 bulbs (legal in Costa Rica).

New wiring with 4 relays ( one for every beam) and 2 in-line fuses (one for every side) direct from the battery.

Now you have head lights!

I like the ones I picked up. From summit racing. I believe they are made by APC. They are the diamond cut lenses. I can't stand the cheapo plastic headlamp lenses that yellow in a year. I have always been fond of the Piaa's for fogs and road lights two. I have had a pair of the Piaa 500s for almost 20 years. They still look great and have the original bulbs in them. They will be put on my cruiser to replace the lights on the windshield as soon as I get time. Hellas are also nice lights from what I hear. Although I have never owned a set of Hellas, from what I have seen they are good quality. I think ultimately, you get what you pay for when it comes to lights.

So you took the PIAA from Summit and swapped them right into the headlights?
Can you add the link to them on Summit?

Does anyone know where to get those rock shields and clips like on landBruisers69 rig?

I found some of those rock screens at Pep Boys for under 10 bucks a few years ago. I also did the Hella headlight conversion. Think I got those from either 4wd parts or Quadratech. Nice pattern and way brighter than stock.

Southeast Overland (mud vendor) sells the Hella 500's lights if your looking for those. Think they are selling some LED stuff also if your looking to upgrade.

maybe not. do you want looks or light????

I don't need light out further than I can drive in a few seconds. I've been satisfied with what I've got without running relays or upgraded bulbs. I very much like the styling of the Cibie's. I could afford about whatever I wanted on there and this is how it's set up, so I guess I want looks over more light than I need.
