According to Autoweek magazine the FJ cruiser is a reality

Spoke w/ a buddy of mine who works for Toyota of America, Northern CA division that said they are for sure producing the FJ cruiser. He said the base price will be around 17-20k.

Refernce this also.............https://forum.ih8mud.com/showthread.php?t=29217.

Of course I'll believe the actual base price when I see it at the dealer.

He said that this spring he's got to go to So. Cal with all the other corporate guys to debute all of the newest stuff, by wheelin in the desert. It'll be interesting to see if they have the FJ up and running for full production by then?

I do like the concept, but I think it will be quite a bit different as most production vs. concept cars are, also am thinking it'll be about $17k-25K, Taco/4runner drivetrain but a little shorter and different body, still sounds like a good combination. I'll bet that blue (or something close) will be one of the production colors. One week to heartbreak... or crow, prepared any way you like :D :)

AND WHO MADE IT FUEL INJECTED AND CALLS IT AN FJ????? They should make it have old rusty carbs, and 4 wheel drum brakes, then it would be just like an early FJ! :D
Come on guys it can't be exactly like the old one, you can't buy a new 53 corvette , or a 69 Mach 1, or a 78 FJ40 anymore. I am excited about this new FJ Cruiser for what it is, a modern body on frame 4x4, with real transfercase, etc. with some styling cues from the FJ 40, with a modern, reliable drivetrain.

Yes, this is true, but you can still get a Jeep that looks ALOT like a Jeep...
Have you ever seen a Wrangler?

Also, Jeep is making a few vehicles that people like us want.
The wrangler Rubicon has a 4:1 t-case, and lockign diffs.
Jeep also makes the Unlimited with a rubicon package to boot. (think troopie)
Also it has the modern conviences of Coil sprign suspension, auto matic trannies, fuel injection. etc.

Jeep has also started making a Turbo-diesel verison of the liberty.
Best of all the Jeeps are affordable.

Lastly, what had toyota done for us?
Do we have solid axled, coil sprung short wheel based Cruisers?
No.
Do we have a choice of engines for our cruisers?
No
Do we have an option for locking differentials in our cruisers?
No....

The FJ Cruiser is a start. But Toyota really needs to do some more work...

Hmmm... maybe you should get a jeep? I'd still rather have a toyota product with some mods than a jeep. :)

Not to say that I am brand specific (I would take a new Patrol C&C anyday of the week!) but I would never drive a jeep.

Even with coil suspension, 4:1 transfer case, and dana 44 (WHOOHOO!) it's still a Jeep.

Jeeps are disposable, underengineered POS. They're like the VW beetle's of the 4WD world.

A stock 40, add an orion, some OME springs, lockers, tires is still much cheaper than a rubicon. And years later, it's more likely to run as well.

IF there is a warranty on the vehicle, who cares?
ALso, my point is, that J**p makes the vehicle most of us drool about.
I am not about to buy one.... But Jeep listens to the people that buy them.

As far as I am concerned, Toyota hasn't listened since 1983...

Ask any hardcore Jeeper and they will tell you to keep your Rubicon. Real rigs are built not bought right? D44's? Whoopie doo. And they aren't standard pumpkins and THERE ARE NO GEARS available for those axles when running bigger tires.

And you are right, there is no American Landcruiser in the catagory of the Wrangler. It's called a Tacoma, the second best-selling 4x4 vehicle in the US. And every year, the Tacoma comes closer to outselling the wrangler. Of course, now the FJ sales will cut into the Taco sales, but that's not the point:)

TRD Tacomas smoke Rubicons everywhere except the rocks. And you can configure them many different ways.

You think Toyota doesn't care about it's offroaders? Then why did Toyota and TRD bring the new Tacoma 4x4 to the TTORA Takeover this year in Tahoe? And why did they pay for the dinner party for all those off-road enthusiasts? And why was Ivan Stewart there with his truck, signing autographs? And why did they "unvail" this new truck in front of customers, with no MEDIA present, before it was reveiled to the Media and public?

And they let TTORA members take pictures with only a promise, yes, a promise, that they wouldn't post them on the internet.

Over two million vehicles sold last year, record sales for Toyota, says your wrong, maybe their not listening to YOU.

I understand what you want, and it is probably what most of us on this board want, but they are not going to make it based on the fact that several thousand guys on a web forum want it, especially considering (probably) only a small percentage of the people on here ever buy brand new vehicles. I like the idea of a solid 4x4 with utility for a reasonable price, since it is based on the Tacoma it will be easily and (relatively) cheaply modifiable. With a (likely) shorter wheelbase and shorter overhangs (better approach/departure angle) there will not be much holding it back from the best other manufacturers currently have to offer, not to mention reliability will certainly trump that of other manufacturers.

Thank god Toyota does not listen to you guys for advice!

This is a kick ass SUV.
