‘14 LX570 with 65k. Just did an oil change and accidentally put high mileage Kirkland in it. Drain and replace or just wait until the next oil change?

I'm betting most people would say to leave it, but IMO the risk of the seal swelling compounds doing things that can't be undone would justify the cost of replacing it.

Just my opinion though.

Too late, post it up in Classifieds or sell it to me with the damaged engine. ;)

But if you decide to keep it, and if the oil was "Kirkland Signature 5W-30 High Mileage Full Synthetic", you're likely OK. The engine may not have "high mileage" but it has high years ie: the seals and O-rings are pushing 12 years old.

The VVT system has small orifices so you don't want to go too much higher (viscosity) especially in freezing weather (Boston winters).

Either way IMHO it won't hurt anything, may even help the seals/O-rings a bit, but if you're concerned drain it out.

I’d drain and refill. If you aren’t combatting leaks, no need for high mileage oil imo. HTH.

Haha take it.

Good guess on the location. I’m literally in Boston.

I’m going to drain the thing. Dreading the mess……….

I’d probably just drain/refill the pan and not do the filter, if you’re dreading the mess. The filter doesn’t hold enough to worry about, IMHO.

The pan is the messier one in my experience.

The secret to draining pan cleanly, as it turns out, it to ensure the passenger side is just slightly higher than the driver side.

That and pulling the crush washer off with the drain plug instead of leaving it stuck to the pan. Popping it loose from the pan after the plug is slightly loose helps ensure that.

65k, Kirkland High Mileage is for 75k and up, so no need to drain and fill, you are basically high mileage.

The lack of varnish and oil leaks on my 235k mile 3UR says 65k is nothing for these engines... assuming oil is changed at 5k intervals.

I’m in the “leave it” camp. It’s not going to cause any permanent harm. If it actually kept the seals swollen then on an old engine you’d only have to use it once and then could switch back to normal 0w-20.

Practically speaking all motor oils contain additives, it’s just that the additive package in higher mileage is focused on leaks vs gas mileage or whatever
