Is there a technique that makes possible the replacement of this 80 series far RH dash vent without destroying it or tearing the dash apart?

I believe a straight pull out is what is needed to be done. The internal side clips should allow the vent to be pulled out without damaging the dash.

I guess one can pull the dash, and push the vent out from behind.

I have not removed them on any of mine, so no experience.
Do you already have the replacement vent? If so, look at it and see how it retains. I would think @NeverFinis is right as that is how most vehicles vents came out in the late 80/ early 90s. The only odd duck I came across was a Volvo.

@NeverFinis is correct; it pulls straight out. The position of the clips is shown in the instrument panel section of the service manual.

Thanks guys. I pried from all sides with a putty knife but if gave considerable resistance. I don’t have the replacement yet. Was going to get the pn off the old vent but I’ll have to look it up.

I popped out the center dash vent with the clock, mine was pretty tough to pull out, just kept gently prying on it with plastic hawker hooks
I can post a pic of the vent with clips for ya.

I have my dash out but it’s a 94 and I can’t pull the vent out without pulling the padded portion from the plastic dash body. The 4 clips interfere with the padded portion. I don’t think I can pull the vent without either damaging the vent itself or scar the padded dash.

I owned a 94 then a 93 and now a 96 and the rashes seem to be very differently put together. I did replace the center, double vent in the 94 but don’t remember the procedure exactly. I’d prefer to not mess with interiors. Large pry bars and hammers are more my thing.

The video I linked shows a 96-97. Both version dashes have the same retainers on right side vent 2 metal and 2 plastic push down wedges. 91-94 has the metal tabs on the top and the 96-97 has the metal tabs on bottom. These are definitely unique and not like any other retainer I’ve seen all the other trim and dash parts on the 80.

The 95-97 center vent with clock snaps in with the same sort of metal spring retainers.
